programs for homeless that work?
having a discussion on the local nutjobs sites about homeless in the neighborhood. basically, they are bashing the alderman for the fact that there are homeless in the ward. we have a little more than "our share" here. these clowns seem to think that they could end this problem with their magic wands.

here is part of the spewage-
Think about it: a comprehensive and aggressive Rogers Park homeless program will get most homeless off the street. An effective program with a reputation - one that won't ignore you and won't allow you to languish or deconstruct in the park, beach, or street - would actually keep many outsiders away.

(outsiders referring to homeless that would come here from other areas if good services were available)

OUR COMMUNITY HAS ALREADY DECIDED, and we expect our elected officials and government to take action to assist the homeless in their plight, even those who refuse may it. Again, I take issue with you. This is not about who is uncomfortable by the sight of homeless people. Nor is this a civil rights issue. No one has a "right" to live on the public streets. Instead, the issue is about our social responsibility to each other, and what we do to help people in need.

i challenged them to point me to any such program that has achieved these things. (they ignored that, of course) but i ask you folks- can you point to a program that has even come close to these elusive goals? other comments?

the best, imho. But, it's still illegal to imprison innocent people (I think!), so unless a person goes in voluntarily, there's not much that can be done.

I've been trying to build a relationship with one guy out here who has no interest in going indoors -- hoping that at some point, he may change his mind. It's been three years and no real movement but at least, we're friends.

3. Sometimes you wonder why people bother having a brain
if it's just going to sit there and not do anything.
