MTHFR
No, I haven't taken up swearing. Variations of the MTHFR gene can mean that your body doesn't process folic acid properly. As near as I can make out, this gene and its variations was only identified in 1995. There are tons of woo-woo sites that discuss this gene, but there also seems to be solid research suggesting a connection to depression and anxiety disorders. It's also connected to migraine with aura, miscarriage, thrombosis, especially leg clots, heart disease and stroke. I'm coming across suggestions of a connection to chronic fatigue, fibromylagia and irritable bowel.

So check it out, and if the shoe seems to fit, check with your doctor.

1. I should add - there are medications designed to compensate for
this by providing the folic acid end products that the body can not make for itself.
