And we don't like the media much. Guess that's a draw. (Hmmmm, we need an internet strategy as a way to make a partial end run around the media.)

4. the trouble is, he's too good to be true

They're suspicious that he's not for real because he's

a) good looking (nobody who is good looking is allowed to be smart, too--you can be a dumb movie star or a smart politician but not both, by their reckoning), and

b) is from a privileged, moneyed class (nobody who is born with advantages could possibly be anything on his/her own merit--everyone knows that "those" people always get everything handed to them because of who they are), and

c) because he is from the above class, he is automatically out of touch with the rest of us and cares NOTHING for anybody but his own. (those journalists know what's what--THEY'VE been around the block a few times--nobody's going to put anything over on THEM!), and


d) because he gets all the breaks because of the above reasons, they're mad--because they feel more deserving. Look how hard they worked all their lives, and all they could get was this lousy job at a newspaper--they really wanted to be a great novelist, after all--but nobody appreciates you unless you are born with the proverbial silver spoon in your mouth!!

It might also be that to get where they are, almost all of them had to or chose to give up their idealism and compromise the values they had when growing up. More than looks, class, brilliance, and priviledge, what he has that they envy the most is his integrity and genuine character. Most of them likely once had those characteristics.

I think that is why they try to take it away from him. Joe Klein's claim that because Kerry didn't talk about Abu Ghraib in his acceptance speech, his live long commitment on anti-torture is no longer relevant. His genuine committment on war being rare and not a political tool is likely why they mention, he voted for the war so many times.

Democrats are not in fashion right now. Kerry also appears to want to tackle the big issues and the media believes that only fools and idealogues want to talk about big nerdy issues. They only like Republicans and Democrats who are obviously not that smart.

9. I hadn't read the Hillary part - that is truely strange

I think someone really really chose a word they didn't know the meaning of - I checked the dictionary. It said "of marriagable age". I have never heard it applied to men. (I know Edwards and Warner are young, but not that young.)

I like loyal cadre of troops too.

However, I don't buy Kerry being #5. I'm willing to admit he isn't the frontrunner but that isn't necessarily a bad thing(see '04). I can even buy that Edwards and Clinton are ahead of him. But Bayh and Warner? There's no way that's the case.

Bayh and Warner do have money. Warner seems to be trying to buy netroots. I haven't yet seen a single poll where they did super well. I was underwhelmed with both of their Road to the White House events.
