Opening Day!
Sorry for being silly, but today is Opening Day and I am going home from work a bit early to, ahm, work hard on, ahm, work stuff. (I hope Schilling's ankle is good. Last year was a disappointment.) It has been an interesting day!

More serious posts later. I have had a real Squeeee! moment today, as Vek would put it and am just too damn happy to be around.

So, Happy Opening Day! (It is a sort of holiday where you live too, right?)

but between the Yankees and the Braves I am not fond of either. I am a homegrown New Yorker but hate the Yankees, love the Mets though, and the third baseman happens to be a friend of my daughter. My other team are the Padres, we lived at their games when we lived in San Diego. I will be going to the Hall of Fame next year when Tony Gwynn is inducted, he was my kids role model.

Edited to correct spelling :banghead: spell checker, spell checker, spell checker.

16. Hey cool I may go to the hall next year but to see Ripken inducted
He was my hero as a kid, I liked Gwynn too. Sigh seems like I am in for another long season, how the hell do you let the devil rays push you around. Yankees Suck and that's all I have to say about that.

18. Yeah, I know. Everyone loves to hate the Braves.
They've been my team since I was a kid, way back when they really, really sucked. I used to think that the the last sentence of the National Anthem was "... the land of the free, and the home of the Braves."

I grew up a Met fan, we had a Met farm team in our town, and tickets were dirt cheap to watch them play. Oh and the snack bar was fantastic and cheap.

21. Yep
but not as much as I use to, since my kids are grown. In fact my daughter sung the National Anthem when she was 10 years old at one of the Tides' games. I was so proud. Bobby Valentine happened to come to our opening Litlle League day and she sang the anthem and he was the one that asked her to sing.

22. wow
Hey not to be rude but I've been to a Tides game too, my aunt and uncle once lived in Norfolk and because of my aunt's connections me and my brother were able to go on the field, it drove the then manager Rick Dempsey insane, when we were in the dugout I heard him cursing and stuff.

15. New Stadium Day
First game tomorrow, so I hear. I hope it doesn't lose the flavor of the old stadium, that was so much fun. Fans don't change just cuz they're in a new stadium, do they?

Happy Opening Day!

(Yes, opening day is a holiday here too. Opening day of hunting season. :eyes: )

25. Hey Kleeb, Now THIS is a rivalry (And yes, we are insane!)
Now that's a Yankee swap
Teams ditch uniforms donning Bronx bombers' logo, pick up new Spinners' threads

By RITA SAVARD, Sun Staff

LOWELL -- Call it the ultimate lesson in hardball.

The bitter rivalry between Boston and New York baseball fans goes so deep that even 5-year-olds aren't exempt.

"It's so intense that it's personal," said Tim Bawmann, general manager of the Lowell Spinners. "During games, or even going out to the ice-cream shop afterwards, if a kid is wearing a Yankees uniform, they end up getting booed by adults."

But yesterday's turnout at LeLacheur Park forecast a different outlook for Little League Yankees teams this season, with more than 40 of the 62 teams seeking to swap their New York duds for new Spinners garb showing up.

In the first Yankees Clothing Drive, Bawmann said 75 navy-and-white uniforms were dumped, along with a handful of hats, as part of the Spinners' Yankees Elimination promotion. The ultimate goal is to convert all Little League Yankees teams into Spinners teams. The Spinners are paying all expenses for the swap, estimated at $20,000.
http://www.lowellsun.com/portlet/article/html/fragments/print_article.jsp?article=3668383

Ahm, the article states that the old Yankee uniforms were donated to teams far from New England, so, ahm, we obviously did it for, ahm, charity. Yeah, we did it for charity.

The article also mentioned Johnny Damon, excuse me, Juan Damoan, as he is currently known herebouts. That is too funny. (Johnny Damon helped us end the Curse and win that '04 Championship. Juan Damoan jumped ship to the Evil Empire and is not to be trusted. Yes, we are insane.)

Remember, real New Englanders don't get mad, they get even. They bide their time, nurse their wounds, remember the slights and then take action when it can be taken. Hehehehehehe!
