Mass catnip: Grudge Match with video. (Romney, Kerry)
Edited on Tue Dec-20-05 12:48 PM by TayTay
Romney, Kerry don’t see eye to eye
After a Globe Santa event at the Boston Harbor Hotel yesterday, Governor Mitt Romney was put on the spot about Senator John Kerry's criticism of him for not signing a regional greenhouse gas agreement. When CBS4's political wag Jon Keller asked Romney about Kerry's comments, Romney reiterated his position. He added: ''John Kerry is a fine person. I'm afraid he's not terribly well-informed of my views." After Keller continued pressing the governor about his relationship with Kerry, Romney said, ''I haven't seen John Kerry in a little while. . . . I wasn't his biggest fan in his race for president. I'm glad he's a senator, not a president." Keller then referenced the famous bury-the-hatchet round of drinks shared by Kerry and former Governor Bill Weld, who ran against Kerry for Senate in 1996. ''We probably won't be sharing a beer, but perhaps a glass of chocolate milk," Romney said, laughing. Keller asked, ''Or diet Vanilla Coke?" ''Ah, I prefer the Cherry Coke now," Romney said, then corrected himself, adding, ''Yes, I've gone from vanilla to cherry; it's a higher sweetness content, I think."

Yeah, Ahm, I don't think there's going to be any 'kumbaya' monents here any time soon.

See this video. Snark heaven:

Might we see both Mitt Romney and John Kerry running for president in 2008? CBS4 Political Analyst Jon Keller reports.

1. I can see why your outstanding Senator hates that guy
Has any Senator ever run without missing the insignificant votes? That was just tacky.

3. Yeah, that was awful
Which makes the Kerry smakc-down last week of Romney's announcement that he wouldn't re-run for Gov all the sweeter. And for some reason, it really, really rankles me the way Romeny says, the State's Junior Senator, like there's something worng with that. Bastid.

(Honestly, my money's on Kerry in this fight.)

2. What an effing idiot.
He went from "what we need is a senator in that seat" to "I'm glad he's a senator not a president."

Great KO by Kerry though: wingnut.

4. This goes back a long way, BTW
they have never been, ahm, friends:

Romney 8/7/94 on his Senate race with Ted Kennedy. (Romney lost big.)
He agreed with his wife that Kennedy was an irresistable target. In fact, if Sen. John Kerry had been up for reelection this year, Romney wouldn't be running. "Because Ted, from my standpoint, is really the champion of a political philosophy for an entire country whose time has passed," he said. "John Kerry -- his political views will come and go."

BTW, this animosity goes back to when Romney wimped out of that Senate race in '96. (The one that Kerry beat Weld in.) Romney is a blowhard wimp. He had his cahnce to go head-to-head and he blinked.
