GOP Senate Snubs the Boss:
GOP Senate Snubs the Boss: Whatever Happened to The Land of Hopes and Dreams?
November 19th, 2005

Whatever happened to the Land of Hope and Dreams…

Democrats across the country were heartened when Bruce Springsteen came forward and endorsed John Kerry. It was an unprecedented move on Springsteen’s part and we all held on to the promise of the Land of Hope and Dreams.

Well, now it seems that Republican’s in the Senate found away to protest Springsteen’s endorsement — and this is just another sad, sorry statement on the party of bash, trash and refusal.

A resolution that would have hailed Springsteen on the 30th anniversary of the release of the rock star’s iconic Born to Run album was killed Friday, the Associated Press reported.

The resolution, sponsored by Senators Frank Lautenberg and Jon Corzine, both of Springsteen’s native New Jersey, never came up for a full vote, the wire service said.

Lautenberg and Corzine are both Democrats; those who denied the resolution from coming to the floor were Republicans of the GOP-led body. The Associated Press report all but linked the Republicans’ resistance to Springsteen’s 2004 presidential campaign efforts for Democratic nominee John Kerry. Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist did not comment Friday on the matter.

2. Ok - They really want to lose NJ forever
Edited on Sat Nov-19-05 01:02 PM by karynnj
They tried saying that NJ was a possible swing state last year - which didn't even seem likely to the Republicans in my Republican county. NJ 's legislature actually considered "Born to Run" as the state song - but it didn't work after the lyrics were read.

The other thing was I think he told Reagan(?), that he couldn't use "Born in the USA". Kerry was the first one he ever gave permission to.
