John Kerry Stumps in NYC for Ferrer
John Kerry Stumps in NYC for Ferrer
October 24th, 2005

John Kerry was in NYC to campaign for Democratic Mayoral Candidate Fernando Ferrer. Bloggers Marjorie G and Mary from Manhattan attended an event. Here’s some news of the event (pulled from our comments) from both of them…

Marjorie G:

Kerry was here for the uphill fight of Freddy Ferrer to become mayor against GOP Mike Bloomberg, the autocratic, rich billionaire posing as a lapsed Democrat. There are difficult dimensions to this. With $100 million to spend on re-election, owner and friends of the uncritical media, his single focus is eminent domain land grabs for huge developments schemes at great taxpayer expense. Dems like Eliot Spitzer and Charles Schumer are for them, truth be told, so even though Bloomberg is the biggest single contributor to the Bush campaign and RNC, his spear-heading the projects through are not unwelcome to the top of our party. Strange currents. The task now is motivate and retrain people to vote Democratic.

1. Thanks, KG
Doesn't Kerry worry that something from Boston may be blamed more by Yankee fans than Bloomberg for Yankee losses? It was cute though.

4. I was there, too
I attended an event with Kerry, Ferrer and Charlie Rangel last night, too. I got to chat briefly with JK and Marvin (and Ferrer). I have some photos and will try to post them tomorrow night with some more details....

6. A report of the event in NY yesterday.

Last week it was former President Bill Clinton, and on Monday Ferrer had another big name Democrat at his side. Ferrer held a roundtable discussion and lunch today with Senator and former presidential candidate John Kerry.

...

“I'm here to support Freddy Ferrer because I think the values that he represents and embraces, the difference he will make to the lives of children and schools with early childhood education, with after-school programs, with health care, with the investments this city needs in its infrastructure, those are the values that we ought to embrace,” said Kerry. “That's a reason to vote for something, and I think people are tired of just voting against.”

Ferrer also criticized the mayor for vetoing a bill to toughen lead paint laws.

Kerry held a fundraiser for Ferrer Sunday night to help his cash-starved campaign. He's the latest national big name Democrat to support Ferrer, after Bill and Hillary Clinton and John Edwards.
