Poll question: Is it time for JK start up his official blog again?
I was really happy to see that www.johnkerry.com has finally been updated. A website frozen in time at the moment of defeat sends exactly the wrong message, and I found it heartbreaking to visit. But blog.johnkerry.com is still suffering from that problem. I don't think the old blog should go away altogether -- it should remain available as an archive. But I think it is time for the blog to become active again. Perhaps they are waiting for the pac to start up again so they have a way to pay for it...

1. the problem is trolls
there were a lot during the campaigns and since there is no campaign right now i don't think there are any people who regularly keep check of the website and it would allow trolls to ruin the place.

the fact that it's an official Kerry website means he is responsible and held accountable for what goes on there.

i'm guessing they will open up the blog when campaigning starts again, either for re-election to the Senate or for possible Primary run again. probably in early 2006.

you might be right about the pac since it would allow for hiring people who can regularly keep track of what is going on there.

2. Wow, that's really too bad!
No way should his people be letting trolls have that much power!

Surely the ShadowPrez should have an active blog!

3. I would love to see the blog open again . . .
JK sends out the occasional e-mail to his supporters, so why not do that sort of thing in the form of a blog? Of course, it would be expensive because it would have to be monitored, but it would probably be an excellent way to keep JK's supporters even more aware of his current activities. Of course, part of me is just selfish and would like for us to hear directly from John more often, because I miss him!

7. I think it's coming down
 That's what I heard anyway, not entirely sure. I'd like to see them activate a blog, I don't know why they don't. But anyway, I heard the blog was coming down and going into the National Archives. First Presidential candidate blog and forum. We'll see I guess.

8. Kerry's new PAC site will be up soon
Progress for America (I think, but I could be wrong. I don't have the press release on me.) That should have a blog. (Cuz they will be accepting donations and usually you get a blog in that situation.)

That would be nice.

And, oh wow, the old blog goes to the national archives. Geez, hope everybody was on their best behavior at that one.

Alarmingly, some of our posts on WMDs are still on there! Not the really good ones - they were deleted - but definitely some of those are still there. In the National Archives?????!!!!

12. Hey, it's a part of history now!
Future generations should be aware that the first Presidential campaign blog was for a man many considered utterly shaggable.

14. This is so good I can't believe it
I love you people. The thought that the WMD posts are going into the National Archives is great. (Why not? Randy Dem women were invited to the party, as I remember. I think this is part of the 'gorgeous mosaic' of America.)

And it's funny as hell. Good for you! In the National Archives. Wonder if some Grad Student in 2080 will be doing a research paper on elections of the past and stumble upon those threads. LOL!

15. Said Grad Student in 2080 (or maybe 2030 or 2040)
would end up totally mystified by the results of the election. The stories in the blog describe an intelligent, interesting, kind, decent man. In addition to Kerry, some of the entries described the rallies by Teresa, the Kerry girls, the Heinz boys, and John and Elizabeth and Cate Edwards. All of these people came across as so good and so sincere.

The debate tapes will also, presumably remain available. Viewed from a distance of time, people should be able to clearly see 2 men, one knowledgeable and Presidential and his scary, irrational opponent. The view of Kerry in the debates reinforces the Kerry in the blog. Though the blog recorded some far more light hearted moments in addition to the more randy comments. The debate tapes will also back up the blogs Bush comments.

By 2030, the impact of much that is happening now will be known. The ultimate analysis of the blog, depends on whether Kerry runs and wins in 2008, runs and loses in 2008, another Democrat wins, or another Republican wins. If Kerry wins the 2008 nomination, it might be that the blog, read by a large number of Democrats, provided a far more personal close up view of Kerry than most of us would have seen otherwise and up close he looks like a really really good person and leader. (This may also explain why, in the midst of Kerry bashing, when people see Kerry, there's a wave of positive posts.)

One view, even if it 2012 or later before the Democrats win, will probably be that the blog was a seed for a later grassroots revival of the Democratic party. In 2008, I would guess that as candidates start up exploratory campaigns, they will start up blogs. One major impact is that it will get the candidate's record, vision, and personality out to partisans much faster that in earlier campaigns. If these people are encouraged to send information to their friends, it may be harder for the Republicans to define them in negative ways.
