Sen. Kerry comes in ahead of Brown in the Pan Mass Challenge.
The other thread was long and I thought this informtion might get lost in it. I hope you all don't mind the new posting.

And, Senator Kerry raised more money too.

http://www.thebostonchannel.com/r/24618935/detail.html

"Sen. John Kerry now has bragging rights over the state’s junior senator Scott Brown.

Kerry not only finished ahead of Brown, who is 16 years his junior, in last weekend’s Pan Mass Challenge bicycle race, he raised considerably more money for cancer research."

2. Thanks for posting!
This is such sweet news, especially considering Brown's totally graceless cracks about JK's age at the kickoff event!

Anyone who feels like leaving a supportive comment, as I just did would class up the comments section. Although, so far, most commenters are, shockingly, giving credit to both senators -- it would be good to see JK get the real credit he deserves (vs. Brown!!!) for a change. I didn't have room to say this, but it really burned me up to see Herald commenters suggest that all the money JK raised was from rich donors. I'm sure there were some large donors, but I know lots of us, me included, gave just a small amount of our very scarce available funds to make up that impressive total he raised!

7. Very nice!
I know it's not supposed to be a competition, but good for JK for beating the Brown the Braggart. Evidently the entire premise of the race escaped Brown if he managed to only raise 4k. I suppose he schmoozed with more onlookers along the way than Dollars he raised. As usual, it was all about him.

Who is having trouble keeping up now, Scottie? :p haha

JK is just so awesome, both as a legislator and a statesman and just in general. He has so much wisdom yet is young at heart in so many ways too. He has an amazing amount of energy; I swear if I didn't know of his Vietnam connection, I'd just assume he was about 15 years younger! :) Would like to see Brown do half of what JK can in 15 years..hell he can't even now! lol :D

But seriously, this is really inspiring. And for a great cause! This will positively affect the lives of so many.

9. Yay Kerry
I suspected this when Brown spoke of going all out in the early stretch - then stopping to talk to people. This makes those "elder" jokes look pretty weak! 16 years and two hip replacements - I bet Brown wishes he could take back the comment that Kerry might have been able to keep up with him for the first few miles.

What is more important is that Brown clearly missed the concept that the goal of a charity ride is to raise money - I noticed that when I looked on the day of the race, Brown raised slightly over $4000 - Kerry over $105,000.

Not to mention, Kerry actually had his hand on his heart and looked serious during the playing of the National Anthem - while the lesser Senator did not.

10. Senator Brown comes across as looking out for only himself.
I hope this is a humbling moment and he finds it in himself to start looking at the people and things around him.

Did the Boston Herald report this?

13. It is pretty clear that Brown completely missed the concept
- both from not even trying to raise money and his comment at the end of the day that he now "got" what it was about. Amazing as his daughter did it one year and sang another year (and this one). That means he likely went and didn't get the point- or did not go to support a college age daughter biking over 100 miles - I'm not sure which is worse. (Amazing that THAT is the Senator the media thinks is in touch with people.))

The BH did report it - in a column with many "news" items - with snark directed at Kerry - although hitting people who gave to the effort due to Kerry's solicitations.

"That not only did Sen. John Kerry beat his GOP colleague Sen. Scott Brown to the finish line in Bourne in last week’s 110-mile Pan-Mass Challenge, he out fund-raised him, too! The senior senator collected $109,909.69 for cancer research whilst the Capitol Hill newbie’s supporters raised a mere $4,030 - possibly because Scott’s buddies need to save money to pay their taxes."
