9,200 in Bay State lose access to jobless benefits
Democrats seeking to pass an extension

AT ODDS ON JOBLESS BENEFITS
Senator Scott Brown’s concern is what extending the benefits could mean for the national debt. Senator John F. Kerry said the debate is about common sense.

1. Real contrast
The comments are interesting in that a number of people have bought the RW talking point that the Democrats ignored Jobs while working on health care - ignoring the major stimulus bill.

2. Good article, but skip the comments
One can only hope that these people aren't actually MA residents who will vote in our state. Telling unemployed folks that there are Help Wanted signs all over Mc Donalds or Dunkins, or on Craig's List is ridiculous.

If someone lost a 70k job and is collecting 35 to 40k unemployment and can probably barely keep his family fed and the bills paid, why would this person then decline unemployment checks for an $8/hr part time job that will surely sink him financially. I agree with one of the commenters: I hope all those posters who give such wonderful advice lose their jobs.

3. Agreed
It is completely insensitive and it is not true as the article says that 1 in 10 MA citizen is out of work.

4. Agreed. Unfortunately, the comments on the Globe have become the domain of freepers and
tea party people.

5. This is the mantra from the Reagan era-that everyone not working is on the take.
But, it ignores the realities in America right now.
