Larry Sabato, who was once called "probably the most quoted college professor in the land" by the Wall Street Journal -- posted the following on Twitter today:

BTW, Webb's no liberal caricature. Ever met a liberal who's won a Navy Cross for heroism, a Silver Star, 2 Bronze Stars, 2 Purple Hearts?

Markos has been bashing Sabato big time on this, mentioning liberal vets, starting with John Kerry of course:

If you read Larry Sabato's Twitter feed he is praising Webb, especially that he's not some pansy liberal. Seriously, I never hear this kind of scorn leveled at conservatives. Is there any job a conservative is not allowed to do the way libs are painted as unable to be soldiers/sailors?

I swear the entire weirdness of it all is related to Virginia and the politics there. Defending Webb must, implicitly, include a dig at Democrats like John Kerry, I guess.

1. Well this shows me why I always disliked Larry Sabato's comments

This actually makes it worse - "I was referring to "liberal caricature", not real liberals". Promoting negative stereotypes is really the way to go! Not to mention, after 2004, there is no possibility that he didn't know that Kerry had the medals he did - in fact, if you asked people regardless of party, to name a Senator who was highly decorated in the Navy - most would say "Kerry".

I like that Markos engaged him on this.

2. Went and looked up what Sabato has said about JK in the past

Found this, from August of 2004:

Sabato said Kerry, a U.S. senator from Massachusetts, is a liberal in the spirit of U.S. Sen. Ted Kennedy, D-Mass., and former Massachusetts Gov. Michael Dukakis.

But Sabato said that likely will matter little before Nov. 2, since this election will mainly be a referendum on Bush and whether he deserves another four years in office.

Sabato called Kerry a cross between a funeral director and Lurch, the stiff butler on the old TV comedy "The Addams Family."

"Only in a year like this could John Kerry be elected. He can't connect with people. He's way to the left of the American mainstream," Sabato said.

"We're right on the verge of electing someone who I believe will be the most liberal president in American history, at least on social and cultural issues."

Mind you, this is in the context of an article in which Sabato predicts that JK will win!

3. Sabato is an idiot who does not have anything good to say about liberal Democrats.

He only likes conservative Democrats and always bitches about how liberal Dems (including Obama) dont know what they are doing.

When you see him say something positive about a non-conservative Dems, you can be sure this dem will win by a landscape.
