3. New York Times article on this

<snip - first paragraph that simply says Gore will speak at the SFRC snipped to comply with 4 paragraph rule.>
Mr. Gore, the winner of both a Nobel Peace Prize and an Oscar for his work in environmental policy, is expected to discuss the role he believes the United States should take as a leader on the issue. Within the last year or more, he has championed a new initiative, We Can Solve It, through his nonprofit group, The Alliance for Climate Protection.

In announcing the star witness for the hearing next Wednesday morning, Senator John Kerry, Democrat of Massachusetts and the chairman of the Foreign Relations panel, said in a statement: Al Gore has been sounding the alarm on climate change for over three decades, and he understands the urgent need for American engagement and leadership on this issue. America must act decisively in order for the nations of the world to reach agreement on a climate change treaty at the December 2009 meeting of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change in Copenhagen, Denmark. The timeline is short for us to respond to the threat of climate change, and this hearing will examine what America must do to lead the world in crafting a truly global solution.

In an interview with The Timess Carl Hulse just last week, Senator Kerry said that he would make global warming a premier piece of the committees work, and would take advantage of the Obama administrations interest in the worldwide reach of the topic. I think we are standing on the threshold of a huge opportunity to actually get something done, he said in the interview. The Obama administration is going to have to get up to speed very, very quickly.

And yesterday from the Senate floor as well as during the confirmation hearing last week for Hillary Rodham Clinton as secretary of state, Mr. Kerry spent considerable time discussing the need for policy changes and initiatives.

6. This might be a very interesting and feisty hearing.

The new Repubs on this committee are members of the "Flat Earth Caucus." They might not be too happy with what Mr. Gore has to say. This could be a defining hearing for this committee and show where the lines are drawn going forward.

Right now, Cspan3 is covering the vote on AG Holder in the Judiciary Committee.

So it looks like it is only on the SFRC site. http://foreign.senate.gov/
