Jeff Corsi is back. This time to smear Obama with a Kenyan angle.

I would say this is a topic very related to Kerry. This report comes from Kenya:

http://www.nationmedia.com/dailynation/nmgcontententry.asp?category_id=1&newsid=123540

A conservative Internet commentator, Michael Gaynor, speculated earlier this month that Senator Clinton’s campaign might play “the Kenya card” against Mr Obama.

Mr Gaynor says “the Kenya card” involves unspecified connections between the Kenyan-American senator and “the radical Kenyan prime minister.”

An author who succeeded in smearing Democratic Senator John Kerry in the 2004 US presidential race may also make negative use of Senator Obama’s Kenyan heritage.

A February 27 report by the McClatchy-Tribune News Service in the US says that author Jerome Corsi intends to research “Obama’s connections to Kenyan opposition leader Raila Odinga and Odinga’s ties to Muslim groups.”

Mr Corsi wrote Unfit for Command, a text effectively used by Republican Party partisans seeking to discredit Senator Kerry’s service in the US military during the Vietnam war.

Evidence assembled by Mr Kerry and his supporters showed that these charges were either exaggerated or flatly false.

The Davises’ allegations concerning Senator Obama and Mr Odinga “are all kinds of false,” states an online commentator for The New Republic, a respected US political magazine.

But one effect of the response to the Davises’ lies by so prestigious a magazine will be to call further attention to those lies.

Now we know how this works. They will smear and use the entire political situation of Kenya to do so. This is absolutely disgusting since Kenya is now in fragile peace after the turmoil over the disputed election. Part of the latest smear, from an e-mail, is to say that if Obama loses the election he will claim it was rigged, just like the leader in Kenya. How convenient, since the GOP figures they can do what they want to cheat, and then frame Obama as a radical African leader if he challenges the results. Kenya is also quite complicated, so the story could go on and on and on, as the Swift Boat attacks did, due to the complexity of looking at every angle of the incidents where Kerry earned medals.

I hope that Team Obama is now assembling the facts needed to defend against attacks. That was one of Kerry's problems: time was needed to assemble the evidence, yet in a 24 hr. news cycle it was expected for him to fight back immediately.

Edit: regarding the Clinton angle, Larry Johnson has been doing Kenyan/African smears against Obama for a long time now. It is so bad that DU will regularly lock threads where people link to No Quarter. Larry Johnson is a Clinton supporter but I have no evidence of them working together, other than the fact that Larry is friends with Valerie Plame & Joe Wilson, who also support Clinton.
