I saw extended clips of this speech, and later on in September, he gave one from Georgetown, I think, about foreign policy and the war, and I knew "he was back".

I think early '04 was a high point, before all of the attacks. And yet, he outperformed that high point in 3 key states: NH, PA, and WI.
The Swiftboat attacks did hurt in some places, but not everywhere. And, Ohio -- well, maybe he matched that poll, but the votes just weren't accounted for.
