1. Cool, I'll check it out!
Still undecided, btw, nowhere near close to deciding. Sigh.

2. I'm in the same boat.
This might be a good chance to try and get a sense of what kind of person he is.

3. I got the same email
and went to look at his blog for the first time. I liked that he mentioned JK on a Harley in the promo rather than ignoring his very existence as most Dem candidates would do.

But I must find out how he's going to talk about JK before I decide anything about supporting him. That's just the way it is. :-)

I'm definitely leaning toward him for the primary if I don't find out anything that makes me change my mind. I like the habeas corpus campaign and I like the way his site is set up. I realize I don't know enough yet, so still exploring like the rest of you! But I will watch TDS tonight.

4. I wouldn't mind if he said bad things about JK since
it was JK's vote for Daschle (the only one from New England to do so) that kept Chris from becoming speaker. Word at the time was that JK's intent was to block the path of a potential rival for higher office rather than casting his vote for the person who would be a better speaker. We all know how Daschle worked out for us.

5. That doesn't sound like the JK I know something about,
Do you have something other than here say to back up this speculation of rivalry? I like Dodd and him and Senator Kerry seem to get along well. Kerry was aware Dodd was possibly running when Senator Kerry was still leaning that way too and Kerry stated the more the merrier when he was asked about the possibility of running along with Dodd.

7. Sen. Kerry did vote for Sen. Daschle for Leader
And he paid a high price in New England for that action. He was backing Daschle because he thought he was the right man for the job at that time.

"Word was at the time." More unattributed comments from unidentified people. This is usually how the RW media operates, make an accusation, charge it to unnamed sources, and then pretend that you are only quoting others. Nice job. However, we do know the truth in here and the smear won't work.

8. Don't have a link but I last saw it mentioned a couple of years ago
in a column by then HARTFORD COURANT political reporter Michelle Jacklin. Nice job identifying tactics used by RWers. You do realize that you are using their tactic of attacking the messenger and asserting that you "know the truth."

9. It's just not acceptable to come in here,
into Kerry's place at DU, and try to spread unsubstantiated rumors - and ancient ones at that. I have no idea where you're coming from on this, but I don't believe anyone here has been anything but receptive to Chris Dodd's message. We haven't said anything against him - not one word. Some of us are even leaning towards him. I don't understand why you would jump in and attack Kerry on this turf for absolutely no reason.

If you haven't anything constructive to say, you should not be saying anything at all. We all know very well what kind of man Kerry is. It's why we are here.

16. I "jumped in" here because I am a member of DU
and have been since the beginning. I was previously unaware that certain groups considered themselves off limit to facts that might challenge the cult of personality of the kind that seems to have taken root here. DU is a political forum (with all of the attendant rough and tumble). It is not a platform for a fan club of the type generally formed for actors and rock stars.

A search for "Dodd" (to make sure that I wasn't posting a duplicate thread on something from the HARTFORD COURANT) had produced this thread and I was somewhat taken aback by the poster whose choice of a presidential candidate seemed to be based totally on how said candidate treats Sen. Kerry

I entered this thread, not to bash Sen. Kerry, but to mention facts that were widely known in CT and to attempt to counter the poster with the Kerry adulation meter. I supported Sen. Kerry in 2004 (I was most definitely a fan of Teresa) and would have happily done so again had he remained in the race. That you saw my comments as an "attack" says more about you than it does about my post.

May I humbly suggest that you do your hero no favors by posting the stuff that you have posted here.

17. I will just quote Skinner:
The purpose of the new DU Groups is to provide like-minded people with places where they can discuss issues free from disruption from those who disagree. The theory was that if we provided members with "safe zones" where you were not being forced to constantly defend yourselves, you might not feel quite so victimized by DU, and you might not feel the need to be constantly fighting with other people.

I have no idea what you mean by "you do your hero no favors by posting the stuff that you have posted here". I don't see anything here that is nasty or insulting to any democrat. Your comments are off-base in this forum. Period.

23. You are absolutely right!

Never having ventured into any of these fori, I had never read the rules. It does help me understand where you guys were coming from and I can certainly understand your frustration. As an ardent supporter of Ned Lamont, I used to be driven crazy by people from other states coming into the CT forum and lecturing us about what a bad thing we were doing in challenging Joe Lieberman.

And with regard to that campaign, Sen. Kerry was a real hero to all of us Lamont supporters when he campaigned for Lamont while the rest of the spineless Dems were weaseling out.

It was never my intention to "attack" Sen. Kerry. I had intended to point out that candidates sometimes have personal reasons for being less than enthusiastic about other candidates. Nowhere did I state that Chris Dodd is "my" candidate, but I would certainly hate to turn people off to his candidacy by my less than felicitous postings. As for "my" candidate, I am leaning toward Obama. Should Sen. Kerry chose to endorse someone, I would consider that endorsement to be a significant factor in making my own choice.

Please accept my apology.

26. That was extremely gracious of you,
and of course, accepted.

From my own observations (mainly from watching Foreign Relations Committee meetings) I've noticed that Dodd and Kerry seem pretty friendly with each other. And Dodd is not one to take cheap shots at anyone, a quality I greatly appreciate.

And thank you for your kind words about Kerry. At this point I am liking Dodd best, though Kerry's endorsement, should he make one for the primaries, would be something I would give a lot of thought to.

28. I agree.
Thanks for the gracious apology.

We actually have heated discussion about all sorts of things in here. (See the recent discussions about the role of activists and legislators and how they sometimes seem to be talking and sometimes working past each other.) There is no monolithic enforcement of opinion in here and it is expected that people will eventually go their own way and choose candidates based on their own beliefs and principles. That is what will happen, as it should.

thread.

I like Chris. He is a very decent person and he is not getting the media recognition he deserves.

The comment you are aiming at is more reflective of the reflexive bashing some Democratic candidates and strategists are doing than of any feeling concerning Dodd. Some people seem to think that bashing Kerry or have their guys bash Kerry will get them the nomination more surely than making their case.

I do not expect Chris to do that. As I said, he is a decent person, but I understand the underlying thought behind this comment.

I do not think you have changed anything in the poster's mind and you probably alienated a few people to your candidate. So, I guess I can return you the compliment. You are making no favor to your candidate doing that rather than letting the person discover than, no, Dodd did not bash Kerry (a major good point in his favor).

21. You entered this thread, made an unsupported accusation
about Kerry and then got mad because someone called you on it? Then, you defended your methods by saying that someone was 'attacking the messenger' because they asked for sourcing? That is the RW method to the core.

Down thread, you seem to be pissed off because people have memories and might base a selection of who to support in '08 based on the treatment of other candidats in the past. Ah, what part of that is not acceptable? You state that politics is a rough and tumble business, which it is, then state that actually developing loyalty to someone and acting on said loyalty is not politic to you. Ah, hello, what kind of logic is that? This seems to be a 'because I said so' type of argument. It makes no sense, has no core and is self-serving, at best.

15. Dodd being Senate Leader would make him less likely to run for President
Edited on Tue Mar-13-07 12:29 AM by JI7
that's why some who don't want Hillary as candidate for Pres are suggesting she take Senate Leader job instead of Reid. with Reid himself being one of those likely supporting it.

and Daschle did do pretty well when it came to the right wing judges. personally i think he has been more effective in terms of substance than Reid.

11. Anyway, Senator Dodd seems like a likable and capable man.
He did fairly well tonight. Watching him tonight, I came away from the show tonight with the impression that he is qualified, honest and well meaning and a bit humble. He certainly seemed at ease. No pizazz though, but I haven't heard him debate or even give a speech yet. Besides, Pizazz isn't everything.

20. Kerry last night objected to the two person race hoopla.
I am leaving in a half hour and need to pack, so I leave it to MBS, Tela and Karennj to talk about the book event with the Kerrys.

JK corrected/added to Charlie Rose, when he mentioned the 'two person race' and what did he think, that Biden and Dodd were also good candidates. That he remembered, well, when people were not listening to what he had to say.

Bravo, senator.

Ang great evening with our favorite people doing very well, on the environment, and answering far too many questions about foreign policy, and the 2004 election, than they might have liked, given their urgent mission and book to talk about. But that's Charlie, and audience questions.

24. I like Dodd, I did not like the interview
I think he was uncomfortable, and did not say much. And Stewart was snarky. Yes, I know, that's how he is supposed to be, but still I did not like his attitude, almost like he was treating Dodd's candidacy as a joke. The only detail I remember in support of this, is the way he ended the interview, "please promise to come back when you drop from the race" or something like that. I am sorry it did not work better for Dodd. I keep hoping that he quietly works behind the scenes and will eventually climb in the stupid polls. Also, the debates should help him. I saw him several times on the Senate floor, and he can be a forceful and convincing speaker.
