1. Check out Elias's post
Is it my imagination or...

did John Kerry put that old pimp Don Imus on the defensive this morning?

These days the I-Man affects an anti-war pose so Senator Kerry noted that Imus' hero Senator John McCain is the Senate's chief exponent of the President's current escalation policy in Iraq.

Imus stammered and dithered beautifully for about thirty seconds before blathering something about an upcoming book from John and Theresa Kerry.
Har!

The Senator also has new website pushing his "set a deadline" for a troop pull out in Iraq.
It can be found here...

The only other thing I discerned from the Senator's call in is that he is in no hurry to endorse anyone and one might think from his tone that he is keeping all his options open.

Yeah.

3. Can somebody explain the appeal of Imus?
Best I can come up with would be "He's great if you like deranged bipolar curmudgeons!"

I just don't get why this guy is on the air. Or has listeners.

6. I think it's a "guy thing"

He's a crankier, older Howard Stern.

Personally, I think it's because he's so un-PC. He and his sidekicks give voice to all the sexist, idiotic things a lot of men still think but can no longer get away with saying. He's a public steam valve.

4. Seems some people are trying to agitate the Edwards troops against Kerry.
To what goal, I wonder.

http://politicalwire.com/archives/2007/02/12/kerry_on_edwards.html

Kerry on Edwards
Sen. John Kerry (D-MA) appeared on the Imus in the Morning radio show and let slip his feelings about former running mate John Edwards when asked who he would support in 2008:

Imus: "It's definitely not going to be Edwards, right?"
Kerry: "Is that your judgment?"
Imus: "I'm just speculating you're not going to support Edwards."
Kerry: "Well I'm not going to speculate yet."
Imus: "Edwards said some icky stuff about you so you can't support him."
Kerry: "I don't pay a lot attention to that."
Imus: "Well, he was kind of trying to blame you and we don't need that."
Kerry: "No we don't. And I'm glad you're on my side on that. Thank you."

(Kerry's apparent venom directed at John Edwards, however, provided the more supercharged moments, even if Imus was doing the egging on.)

I wished the venom against Kerry was expressed in such mild terms.

5. There was NO venom there -
The strongest comment was the last sentence - after refusing to take the bait repeatedly. Remember that the guy who writes the note is the amoral genius who said Drudge is our Murrow. Given that Edwards HAS been blaming Kerry for at least half a year - agreeing that that wasn't needed is fair and far less than Edwards did.

It was mentioned in one GD-P thread - where I countered it and put the link tothe JohnKerry.com site's video.

7. If somebody actually listened, they would have heard a bit of discomfort

from Kerry. He obviously didn't want to talk about it one way or the other. There was no venom. At all.

Edited to add: also, when Imus asked about Obama's smoking and said that Obama was lying and hadn't really quit. Kerry said "I don't know anything about that", which translates to "I'm not a gossip". I've heard that tone from people at work, who stop gossip cold in its trail. It is very praiseworthy and I am glad Kerry had that tone. Since he was PART of the gossip on the Edwards stuff, that was even more awkward and once again, Kerry thought it was inappropriate to discuss. The last part he agreed with because it was about honoring the truth which he has always done.

10. this is why I respect JK so much!
He is simply a class act, all the way. Besides good breeding, it shows that he is living the tenets of his faith, not just mouthing the words. He follows the Golden Rule, not returning evil for evil.

True quality shows through to others in the end. And personally, the ability to look back on your behavior and be proud of your conduct is worth more than anything. It's good politics not to make enemies, but more important to people like JK is the ability to maintain your integrity.

That's what I find so disgusting and repellent about the current pres. He seems to have lost his integrity long ago, if he ever had any, and lives now on self-delusion.
