for NY area people: NYC March 12!
I was scanning an old (Jan 4) NY Times and saw an ad for 2007 92nd Y lecture series.
Here's one that will interest you:)

See http://www.92y.org

JOHN KERRY AND TERESA HEINZ KERRY WITH CHARLIE ROSE: The World We Live In John Kerry, the 2004 Democratic presidential nominee, says that everyone—not just environmentalists—has a stake in how we treat the planet. Kerry, a four-term senator from Massachusetts, talks about how the environmental movement can survive the tempests ahead with resilience, ingenuity and independence. Kerry, a lifelong proponent of environmental causes, is also a Navy veteran who earned a Silver Star, a Bronze Star and three Purple Hearts for his service in Vietnam. He is the coauthor, with his wife, Teresa Heinz Kerry, of a new book. Teresa Heinz Kerry is the chair of The Howard Heinz Endowment and the Heinz Family Philanthropies (collectively, the Heinz Foundations), disbursing money to various social and environmental causes.

After the lecture, attend a post-event wine and cheese mixer.

Tickets are $50 for "front orchestra"/$25 for "rear orchestra". Wine and cheese mixer is an extra $10
To buy tickets: http://www.92y.org/shop/event_detail.asp?productid=T%2DLC5SE13 They state that their ticket surcharge is 1/2 Ticketmaster etc charges

I'm sure this must be part of their book tour, and that there will be similar events in other cities. .but this one , if expensive, looks like fun.

OT, but there are gobs of other lectures at the 92nd Y this spring. . Dan Rather, Wesley Clark, Mike Wallace, Oliver Sacks, Tom Brokaw . . and on March 18: Stanley Friedman, on the lecture topic: "Flying Saucers are Real" (Maybe this is an explanation for the last 6 years????)

2. Gee, I hope they come here too!
I would love to see this. Maybe a nice lecture at Faneuil Hall or something.

Seriously, if people can go, they should go. Sounds like fun!

4. LOL, aren't they already there?
Seriously, though, I hope we will all get to go to something like this, as the blogging that would result could really help spread the word about this important book.

5. I would love to go to a reception like this.
I look forward to an event closer to home. (It must be tough arranging a book tour or discussion tour like this. Talk about people with busy calendars!)

It would be wonderful to hear them both. Karynnj, you must post about this and how it went.

6. I know what you mean.
It's always really enlightening and fun to to see a big group of Kerry supporters. It would be worth the price of the ticket just to hang out at an event like that.

7. I'll be there, too
I bought tickets the day they went on sale in early December for myself, my husband and my 13 year old son, who's the only one in the family who hasn't met the good senator yet. I didn't see Teresa's name as a co-guest when I bought the tickets, so that's an added surprise. It will be my first time seeing her.

8. Attending also
MBS and I are planning to go, also.

Almost as important, this is my first DU post. Made it through the sign in difficulties, finally, and paid my dues. I was on a treadwill of new passwords and names, seems for years.

Nice to be home.

11. welcome!
I just tried to send you an email, with info on the lecture and wine and cheese reception, but it was bounced back 4 times! Messages says "connection refused due to abuse" (????)
I was trying to send you links for the Y web page.. Do you know how to use the email on this site? (You will now have an inbox under "My DU" when you log in. . ). I"m going to send you the links by that route now.

You've been so helpful on dailykos, it's nice to have you here, too. You'll have to give us a full report of this event with JK and THK.

16. Still good seats
Due to the holiday, probably, people haven't really responded to the Y's mailing. We are L101/102.

The wine and cheese is without the Kerrys, and just the Y's singles mixer. Hopefully, we can find eachother and a Starbuck's. Maybe Payards at 74th and Lex, for the best creme brulee and hot chocolate, 20 blocks south by subway.
