Kerry on the SOTU speech

Statement by John Kerry on State of the Union Address

"President Bush said tonight that the state of our union is strong and confident, but millions of Americans know it can and must be stronger. The best way we can instill real confidence in their future is if we follow the true mandate of the last election -- a mandate for unity and true bipartisanship. The political campaigns are over and now we must get down to work. For the 11 million children in this country without health care, we must make our union stronger. For our brave soldiers in Iraq and their families, we must act now in the wake of the Iraqi elections to give them reasons to be as confident about their future as they are courageous under fire.

"The best way to begin genuine bipartisanship to make America stronger is to work together on the real crises facing our country, not to manufacture an artificial crisis to serve a special interest agenda out of touch with the needs of Americans.

"Our country faces a real crisis in health care, a real challenge of record budget deficits, and every American deserves a real plan to improve retirement security -- not weaken it. The problems of health care can be solved if we stop giving tax cuts to those who have the most, and start making health care affordable for those working harder and harder for too little. I was disappointed the President did not spend more time addressing this problem that keeps millions of Americans up at night worrying about their children's future.

"The problems facing Social Security 50 years down the road can be fixed tomorrow if Washington ends the borrow-and-spend policies that are running up a record debt and dumping it on the backs of our children. The challenge of retirement security can be solved if we sit down in the true spirit of bipartisanship and make it possible for young people to save and invest while still guaranteeing that Social Security remains insurance against poverty and disability that can never be wiped away.

"Watching Iraqis go to the polls for the first time was an inspiring beginning this week, but we can't stop there. It wouldn't have been possible without the bravery of American troops. I am glad the White House will at long last act to provide a $250,000 benefit for the families of troops who've made the ultimate sacrifice. We must do more for those who give of themselves for God and country. But the greatest tribute to the memory of the fallen is an exit strategy called success. Elections were an important milestone, but to go the distance the President must now bring other countries to the side of the Iraqis to rapidly train a security force capable of providing stability. Even more critical is bringing Iraqis together and making clear to millions of Sunnis who stayed home that they have a stake in a secure nation.

"We must succeed in Iraq, but we must also wage and win a more effective War on Terror. We must never take our eye off the ball in the greater struggle against extremism. I was disappointed that the President didn't mention Osama bin Laden's name once tonight. Wherever that terrorist who has murdered Americans is hiding tonight, he should know America will never rest until we've destroyed him and his terrorist network.

"The state of our union -- our faith, our families, our values -- is strong, but we must challenge ourselves and challenge Washington to make the country we love as strong as the freedom that makes it special."

4. Wow! Thanks J17!
The middle is him in Pelosi right, beautiful.
The first pic is probably him looking at notes and refusing to cheer on the liar. Other times when he clapped he looked like, "Well, if I don't clap, they might shoot me."

In the third picture. The first one he is reading a program about * agenda and speech. But that speech was pure bullshit. Some parts I had to laugh especially when Kerry laughed after one of * dumbass remarks. Then there was parts I was cussing like hell. * is the type that makes your blood boil and brings out the anger in many people. Me being one of those. I can't stand that bastard and all his bullshit rethoric and lies. :grr: :grr: Kerry came close to laughing more than once and when he slipped that one time he hurried up and leaned over and started talking to the guy next him cause he knew they would have the camaras watching him and his expressions and reactions to * rethoric. But it was funny. He smiled a couple of times like he was thinking "yeah you bastard lie some more will ya" or "sure we will see about that one." It had to be hard for him to sit there knowing he should have been the one giving that speech instead of listening to a damn liar. But my hero is one tough cookie and he can handle anything and he has proven that more than once.

John Kerry :yourock:

3. Good, just as good as Reid's statement.
I'm so tired of Dubya spending more time in his speeches talking about taking away queer Americans' rights instead of focusing on health care and trying to track down Bin Laden.
How the fuck can this president keep talking about freedom when he wants to take away the few freedoms of queer citizens who are good Americans and pay taxes, die in your fucking wars...!
I don't curse usually but I AM SO FUCKING ANGRY WITH DUBYA TONIGHT!!!
JK looked sad through the whole thing, which makes me even sadder. He's in the wrong seat, damn it! If he was up there, he would not be spouting stupid homophobia, but talking about health care.
IMPEACH THAT FUCKING LIAR!

20. ha
Dubya had a team of speechwriters--I don't know if JK had any help, after all it was a statement, not a speech. Most likely not a bit of help. But it's the clear winner. Honest and straightforward, without being pessimistic.

32. no I wasn't excusing dubya
I was saying that JK's statement had real content, and dubya's was useless spin and propaganda--oh yes, he is totally responsible for it! I know he directed the gist of the thing.

He's not as dumb as he looks; he has a definite agenda--that of rendering the federal government useless before the forces of big corporate power.

10. Somebody somewhere will have a hairy cat fit over
"more effective war on terror."

Yes, sports fans, he believes there is more to terrorism than "get out of their country and they'll leave us alone. I still think back to that book of his, where he practically predicts 9/11. And the speech from 1997 where he's already saying we need to hold Saddam accountable. And his comments from the Senate floor just before 9/11 where he's talking about terrorism, and at the same time the administration is going on and on about Star Wars.

Oh yes, I feel SOOO much safer with the Shrub in the WH instead of John Kerry. Kerry doesn't know a THING about terrorism :eyes:

He's more hawkish than DU would prefer, that's for sure. But I'm glad he brings up Osama bin Forgotten in his comments here. Oh yeah, I remember him. Wasn't there some incident about 4 years ago? Anyone know something about that?

26. Oh my Lord! You can't be serious.
The hair alone is worth the price of admission. How can anyone look at Chimpy and not want to barf. He doesn't have the brains God gave cabbages. Honestly. And he has to use artificial means to enhance his manly status and parts. I mean, honestly, who in their right mind could be attracted to that thing. It's just unfathomable.

There's no accounting for some people's lack of taste.

Most smart women are not fooled by it. Why do you think that woman hugged and kissed Kerry after the second debate?

Nancy Pelosi knows a great man when she sees one:

My hero Donna Brazile on Kerry:"I love tall men." nuff said.

John Kerry releasing his own "shadow" State of the Union speech to us, his base. How telling. He knows he got the votes of half the country, and he is taking that responsibility seriously--I think he does see himself as responsible to be the leader of the half that were left behind after the election. He KNOWS he is our shadow president!! (and I think he knows he should be the real one, too.)

I think we can be confident that we will continue to see him dogging Bush's tracks all the way through this next term. Bush gives a health speech--Kerry gives a better one. Bush gives a SOTU speech-- Kerry sends us his--his own intelligent and informed take on the state of our union. This is so cool!!

edit: if you want to go to the source for this speech, it is at:
