I talked with Jim briefly back in 2004, gave him a Kerry Freedom Fighters T-Shirt. At some point, he made it clear that he saw Vietnam a little differently than JK. He was doing his job and had nothing to feel bad about, is how I interpreted his comments. Based on this brief letter, it seems JK might not have quite bought that. This is so touching to me. The man just never leaves anybody behind, he finds a way, he just always finds a way.

I think we all know how much better off we would be if Kerry were president.

2. I don't read Doonesbury -- can anybody provide a little bit more

background on why Jim was moved by the strips? Since Jim wasn't an amputee, what else about the story did he relate to?

I guess this is another example of the "little" things the good Senator does that add up to a big heart.
