Why oh Why did I venture into GD-P today?
I swear, they're emptying the insane asylums and then encouraging them to log on to DU so as not to cause the rest of the world any trouble. It's now come to Skull and Bones, both parties are the same, and America sucks because it doesn't have the parliamentary system. Trying to persuade an insane person to back Kerry in '08 strikes me as a BIG waste of time. Maybe I should clean my kitchen instead -- FAR more productive and betters the world a hell of a lot more than interacting with these idiots.

1. Some people are just unreasonable and unreachable, it is probably better
not to waste your time.

2. Some days it's ok,
but most days...

I had some luck on dkos yesterday. O8)

You never know who'll turn out to be actually willing to listen and discuss.

5. Hey that was great, Whometense!
I liked your answers. You got all of your points across, but in a humble way. Hate to say it, but DailyKos is overall a better place to discuss than DU. Kos is an idiot, true, but ever since Kerry logged in in January, enough Kerry supporters have come to that website that I can confidently say he's got his core supporters represented nearly every time I go there. True, I've had my problems there, but there are some intelligent and resourceful people there; that is less true on DU. DU is full of crazy people who add NOTHING to the conversation as well as people WAY left wing (it's more moderate on dKos). That's why I posted "Why oh Why", because DU can only eat time, and produce little. And then there are the rules; it seems the more rules DU creates, the worse it gets. Meanwhile, Kos has few rules (except no conspiracy theories which essentially weeded out the crazies who congregate over here), and it's community regulated with the troll rate button, which I use rarely.

OTOH, what makes DU a good site are the subgroups like this one, and the PM function.

I do like reading posts out in GDland from you guys, but if it's something positive about Kerry, it will normally degenerate into the usual suspects doing their hit and runs. Frankly, their whining completely bores me . . .

9. Thanks!
It helps me to remember that few people are as informed as I am about Kerry. So a lot of the negative stuff I read (at Kos, anyway...) is said out of ignorance. And I'm happy to set them straight if they're willing to listen. It's hard sometimes because I feel the emotive flair and I want to charge in and defend him. But I try to remind myself of how I think he'd handle the situation.

You do a great job of keeping things civil. I agree with you about the relative strengths and weaknesses of DU and DKos - DKos is much more moderate - even somewhat conservative. In general - of course, there are always exceptions.

10. Actually, I had a bad day a week or so ago
And was decidedly less civil. Basically, I called somebody a stinker, and I see she is quite prominent on Kos, so I'm mostly lurking there, keeping my head low, until they forget about the stinker comment (hey, in Mommy land, it means you're just being a jerk for no reason, which she was, but, not exactly the best way to win "hearts and minds"). I feel like on Kos, if you have a bad day, there are consequences. But on DU, you can just think, "hey, I'm STILL not as crazy as the other posters", and continue on your merry way. So, I suppose that is ONE advantage, but . . . I like sites where you feel like you are held accountable for your actions. I certainly feel that way on this JK forum.

Anyway, back to you, I still remember your posts from '04 on Kos -- you were always so eloquent in describing what Kerry meant to you and the good he has done over the years (plus you're from Mass. so it had a local charm). I think it's fair to say you are one of Sen. Kerry's best and brightest allies on the blogs . . .

(Of course, one of many, but I felt the need to single you out with your small victory on dKos)

11. awwww....
thanks  I try. But to be honest, I wish I had more stamina. I wish I could absorb just a little of JK's.

And congrats on calling someone a stinker. I'm sure she deserved it - the main people over there tend to lose track of the real world, and they need to get called on it.

3. You cannot carry on dialogue with the S&B people.
Edited on Wed Sep-06-06 12:13 PM by TayTay
They aren't all there (in the head.) They are also, sadly, immune to the curative effects of humor and lack the basic ability to laugh at themselves. This condition Humorus Impairicus quickly degenerate into Humanicus-HeadUpOwnArseIcus unless something is done to intervene. (Sadly, being humor-impaired is not terminal, sufferers linger on and on and on and on for years.)

Personally, I think the S&B stuff would have made a good X-Files episode.(That was a show for people who live and breathe conspiracy theories.)

6. X Files -- that's good
Maybe we should respond (for fun), saying we have already asked Molder and Skully (sp?) to look into that S & B angle. Skull and Bones may actually be a Martian conspiracy to take over the planet!!

8. I like that one
IT was all about this slimey ooze stuff that entered their bodies and took over their minds. (George Allen excepted, for obvious reasons.) It made them, ahm, different. (Where is Vektor when I really need her. This cries out for her 'gentle touch' commentary.)

4. the haters just want to hate.
Not much anyone can do. They need to get a life, instead of making themselves feel bigger by being angry.

7. Did you know Casey is anti-choice??
That's the extent of a post in GD, by a regular DUer. Things that make you go hmmm. There will be a lot more of this garbage as we get closer to the election, just like there was in 2004. Some people don't seem to want Democrats to win at all.

12. As others have said before, responding is more for the lurkers
Yesterday was like that too. I'm sure the idiot who WEL, Sandasea and I were posting against could never be won. He thinks he knows everything and has neatly categorized everyone - he is completely convinced that the political view he holds is TRUTH. In Kerry's case - he's a neocon and a neolib (on economics) - even though his speeches indicate the opposite - because, he says that's just sugar coating for the progressives. The alternative - that the world is more complicated than his very silly test - with way too many poorly designed questions - predicts.

The proplem is he is pretty well spoken and consisders himself to be intellectually superior to almost anyone on the board - and he is clearly educated, but he is clearly not willing to listen to anyone.
