"Blindsight" by Peter Watts..
A dark and fairly disturbing but extremely interesting book, I enjoyed it quite a bit and, as with most books I enjoy, I learned something from it.

The use of vampirism to allow hibernation for a deep space voyage was a great touch, having vampires as an extinct offshoot of humanity that had been brought back by genetic engineering really added a unique twist to an already fairly deep book that riffs on consciousness, theory of mind and quite a bit of pathological psychology.

I'll be reading more of Watts in the future I think.

1. I'm a big big fan of Peter Watts.
Blindsight was a bad-ass novel. His Rifters series is also extremely cool. Also pretty dark, maybe a *bit* less so.
