Has anyone read "The Truth Machine?"
This book is now 11 years old, and some of its predictions
(including the Gore administration) have not come to pass,
but its premise, a portable, fool-proof, personal lie-detector,
still intrigues me. It changes civilization, of course.

Certainly the Senate hearings with Gonzales could have used
a few of them!!!

1. No, but it sounds interesting.
Who is the author?

It reminds me of a couple of Arthur C Clarke's books, where he takes an idea of a new technology and extrapolates what the future may look like with it.

The Trigger - scientists discover a radio frequency that instantly detonates all explosives its aimed at. Later, its refined to simply make them inert. He explores what the world looks like after all guns and explosives become useless. (The NRA is not happy!)

The Light of Other Days - scientists discover wormhole technology that allows remote viewing of any place or time. He looks at what happens to privacy when everyone has access to this.
