New Tolkien book
(snip)
NEW YORK - An unfinished tale by J.R.R. Tolkien has been edited by his son into a completed work and will be released next spring, the U.S. and British publishers announced Monday.

Christopher Tolkien has spent the past 30 years working on "The Children of Hurin," an epic tale his father began in 1918 and later abandoned. Excerpts of "The Children of Hrin," which includes the elves and dwarves of Tolkien's "The Lord of the Rings" and other works, have been published before.

What do you other Tolkien fans think?

I've never read much of the stuff like the "Lost Tales" series. I read the Hobbit, and the LoTR books and only a couple years ago read the Silmarillion.

But my interest is definably peaked in this case. The tale of Trin Turambar in the Silmarillion was my favorite story in the book I think and from what I understand this new book is an expansion on that story.

1. It will be interesting to see what it will be like.
Is it a novel, like LOTR, or more like a history, such as the forms of the Lost Tales and parts of the Silmarillion?

I don't know about all these children of classic sci-fi/fantasy authors carrying on the torch so to speak - but then I've never read any of their stuff, like Herbert's son's work on the new Dune novels or Anne McCaffrey's collaborations with her son on the new Pern books.

2. Good question but ...
my understanding of what I read is that it will be a novel.
