Confirmed: Heath Ledger WILL play The Joker in next Batman
http://www.batman-on-film.com/batmovienews.html

The above site is THE source for all things Batman-movie related, and they say it is indeed a done deal.

Frankly, I was hoping for Lachy Hulme among all the publicized candidates, but evidently the talks with Ledger were kept under a tight lid. Ledger's a good actor and he hasn't had the opportunity to play the ultimate psychopathic killer yet, so I know he'll give it 100%. And I know Christopher Nolan will get an amazing performance from him for this role.

To heck with every movie being made for the next year or so. I want to see Christian Bale back in action as The Batman, opening up his special can of whuppass on The Joker.

(I know a lot of people will be sad to see that Mark Hamill didn't get the part, but come on... Although Hamill is the DEFINITIVE voice of the character in the cartoons, I can just see the Joker screaming, "But I was going into Toschi station to pick up some power convertors!")

1. I'm glad they steered clear of Mark Hamill
To date, I've seen about 15 seconds of Batman cartoons in the past 15 years, so no voice featured therein is any more definitive than any other voice. I mean, they didn't pick Casey Kasem to play Robin in Batman Forever; voice-talent work is commendable but shouldn't give the actor a leg up on the competition.

2. Official eh?

If he plays it really dark I think it might work. He wasn't someone I even considered initially, but I don't know. Batman Begins was good enough for me to warrant some trust. When I heard the villains were going to be Raz Al Ghul and Sandman I snorted, but it really worked for an origin story and I actually really liked how Sandman was handled.

Should be interesting.

Here's a plot summary I got off imdb

"Batman, Lt.Jim Gordon and D.A. Harvey Dent team up in an effort to stop the villainous Joker, a theatrical serial killer who lives for the sole purpose of causing harm to the citizens of Gotham, as well as The Dark knight. At the same time, Batman begins to uncover more of the corruption that is plaguing Gotham City, with the arrival of crime boss Salvatore Maroni."

I'm still angry that Billy Dee didn't get to play Two Face in Batman Forever after playing him in the first film.

Also i'm glad that Katie Holmes is out of the picture. It'd be nice for him not to have a love interest AT ALL.
