1. Every single time I watch 'The Inner Light', it makes me weep.
Every. Single. Time.

Now that's good writing. And even better acting.

2. I think "The Inner Light" is the best script of the Star Trek series...
No question, it is my all-time favorite.

5. It was the most poignant Star Trek episode ever
I was deeply moved by it and it remains one of my favorite TNG episodes.

3. I voted for Yesterday's Enterprise because it's one of the best Trek eps
but I personally put "The Inner Light" as one of the best SF eps ever, any series. The idea of a character living out decades of a life in the space of 1/2 hour "real time" is just mind-blowing.

4. I admit, I nearly voted for "Yesterday's Enterprise", too
But as for "The Inner Light" -- I think the thing I loved best about it was the fact they didn't make like "it was just a dream".

In Picard's mind, it was as real as anything, and the validation came with the flute -- and Picard's ability to play it afterwards. I still get teary-eyed thinking about it.

6. My favorite ST TNG episode will always remain "Darmok"
but of this list, Inner Light is the best.

10. Great first-time viewing.
I found the alien language utterly unconvincing from a linguistic perspective (no, a translator is not going to pick out any words until it understands the context), but as the episode unfolded, it felt right; it felt alien, and was genuinely puzzling. I just knew that the lingo was more than gibberish, and the revelation was artful.

Watching it again isn't nearly so thrilling, but I'd certainly rank it among the finest.

8. I Had To Go With BoBW
While every episode on this poll is a very good one, i think the Best of Both Worlds is one of the best overall episodes of any series, ST or otherwise, sci-fi, or otherwise ever done.

The tension built, the intractability of the enemy, the hopelessness of the cause, and then the cliffhanger element when we all knew that contracts were coming due! Examination of the depths of humanity and how it separates us from sheer logic, the strength of will.

I don't accept the "individual vs. the collective" as a poor message, because the collective is uncaring and unconcerned about the individual in as complete a manner as there is. I'm all for community and expect individuals to be part of it (like paying one's taxes and shutting up about it, rather than whine some selfish neocon), but in this case the sense of self was the most important thing.

I think this episode had every element a story could have, and really should have been the first TNG movie.

9. The Drumhead
I've already voted in this poll but I just finished watching "The Drumhead" and it may be my new favorite TNG episode.

Someone ought to mail a copy of this to First and Bush.

11. On that note...
