Under-appreciated movie: "Equilibrium"
Anyone else like it? I loved it. It's a straightforward dystopian story in the tradition of "1984" and "Fahrenheit 451", but it is very well done. Christian Bale, as the main character, is fantastic in this show, and kicks serious ass in some of the best battle and swordfight scenes in scifi (the "gun-kata" scenes are great). If you haven't seen it, you're in for a treat!

1. Ten years from now everyone will have seen this movie
LIke many other "classics" of our time, "Equillibrium" will be named in the same breath as many other films that came into their own on video like "Evil Dead" and "Escape from New York".

Having seen it, I wasn't one of the people who went "Christian Bale as BATMAN?!?" when I first heard him cast in the role.

The gun-fu was most wonderfully realized. Everyone involved with the film needs watching. The director and writer (I don't know if they're the same people) should do great future work, if given the chance.

2. Ah, you liked "Evil Dead" also? You have excellent taste.
<<Spoiler Alert>> My only nitpick, and it's a minor one, is that they crossed the line of believability when Christian Bale cut off the face of the enemy uber-swordsman, and it slid off onto the floor. That was a little too much.

I'd love to see a sequel to "Equilibrium", but the story was so completely wrapped-up, that nothing is left for another one.

IMHO, Christian Bale would be a great Batman, He's naturally cryptic, dark, and brooding. Just as long as Tim Burton is kept as far away from the project as possible. I can't take any more Tim Burton! Enough with the cheesy latex suits and ridiculous cars. They look great in comic books, but don't translate well to film. I would like a new Batman movie that is less campy (and frankly, less stupid) than the previous movies, and instead more sleek and sophisticated. Maybe along the lines of the first "Blade" or the latest "Punisher".

3. You sound like you don't know that there IS a new Batman coming out
And Bale was cast as Bats. Tim Burton isn't directing. I believe it's the director of Momento, iirc. It's a prequel of sorts as it's about Batman when he first becomes Batman. I think production is already finished.

5. Yep, I posted a thread on this movie a few months ago
Probably the best movie I saw all last year, and may even be the best movie I've seen in several years. I've now shown it or recommended it to at least a dozen people, and they all loved it. Many of them even bought it. It's one of those rare movies that has it all and does everything perfectly. Great action, great drama, thought-provoking storyline, great acting, sets, you name it. Too bad it didn't get more attention when it was released, but I do think it will go on to become a cult classic at the very least and perhaps even a mainstream one as time goes on.
