I am an atheist

This is very liberating for me, to write this post, and not feel WEIRD, or thought to be less of a person because

I DO NOT BELIEVE IN GOD

I believe in the awesomeness of the universe, every speck, every particle on every planet, everywhere,

is all from the same incredible source, the big bang, all of it, everything, is all connected

and it is wonderful, learning about it all- the universe, galaxies submolecular particles, the human brain is beautifully complex, and in learning, we grow--- and it is thrilling!

and we, as humans, can feel compassion and kindness and inspiration and love.

so we should do just that

2. Convincing believers that atheists can be ethical and compassionate
is usually an uphill battle. We have no moral absolutes handed to us by a codified worship. We have to think everything through, like what kind of world it would be if we all stole, or cheated, or assaulted, or killed. Most of us have decided not to live in that kind of world.

It's often best to tell people you're simply not religious until you know them really, really well.

They'll still be shocked, though. Trust me.

yes, your words have some truth.

Atheists are thought to be deniers, as if we our beliefs are meant to negate 'positive' beliefs of the religious.

But I have found some value in convincing people in my sense of wonder at what we can know, as intelligent rational people.

Does knowing why and how a rainbow's colors are created make it less magnificent? To me it makes it more beautiful and awesome, that we CAN know about the sun's rays and the atmosphere, and water particles-----its incredible, and awesome that we can figure it out.

My atheism is a spiritual affirmation of existence, I love to marvel at things.

I don't deny that there is a god, to me god is something to wonder about.

5. I like what you say!
The way I've always put it is, "Reality is far more interesting than anything we could ever imagine."

Hundreds of years ago, who would have imagined how the subatomic world operates? Thousands of years ago, who would have imagined that humans would some day be able to measure the distances to the stars, and that they would be unimaginably far away? Or discover the chemical makeup of the stars, and determine that they're made of many of the same things we find on Earth?

I don't see the need to invent things like astrology and gods -- the real world is more fascinating.

6. Yes Yes Yes!
I am an atheist who finds pleasure and joy at the complexities of nature and science. I think evolution is beautiful. I think that the truth is enough and that we don't have to concoct myths to explain away what is already perfect as it is.
