Uganda: Christians Raze Suspected Witch's Home

POLICE in Hoima have rescued a herbalist from enraged Christians who accused him of witchcraft and disrupting peace in the neighbourhood.

A group of evangelical Christians on March 10 stormed the home of Mr Edward Isegeza, a resident of Rwobuhuka village in Buhimba Sub-county accusing him of bewitching residents.

The Officer in Charge of Buhimba Police Post, Charles Opaga said the group burnt down Isegeza's shrine. Isegeza, who is said to a herbalist, allegedly sent evil spirits to attack the children of his neighbour, Mr John Mwesigwa.

Mr Mwesigwa claimed that whenever the children were attacked by evil spirits, the they called out Mr Isegeza's name and would attempt to run to his home

2. Sad but true...

It was this kind of Crucible-esque crap that led to the tragedy in Salem over 300 years ago. Using speculation and fear as evidence, and committing vigilante justice, is a temptation that all of us can be lured into. Beware.
