FORT WAYNE, Ind. — The former fiancee of a man serving in Iraq and her brother were charged with theft after they confessed to stealing $3,000 from the soldier’s bank account, police said.

Samantha Savage, 20, and Lamar Savage, 22, both of Fort Wayne, were released on their own recognizance from the Allen County Jail after being charged with one count each of theft.

A message seeking comment at a number listed for S. Savage in Fort Wayne was not immediately returned. There were no numbers listed for Samantha or Lamar Savage in Fort Wayne.

In October, the soldier’s mother reported to police several suspicious transactions on her son’s account, which he had formerly shared with Samantha Savage, according to court documents. The soldier’s mother has power of attorney over his finances while he is overseas.

Several transactions were made through phone and online banking on Oct. 16 and 17, court documents said.
