CALLAWAY, Fla. —
Three people have been charged with using chemicals and equipment from Tyndall Air Force Base to produce about $300,000 worth of methamphetamine, Bay County authorities said.Hubert Seaton Gill, 31, of Callaway; Jacqueline Patterson, 25, of Dade County; and Brent Cesar, 26, of Marianna, were arrested on various drug-related charges Wednesday night. Gill told authorities he worked at the base as part of a cooperative partnership with North Carolina State University.
He is a research assistant professor in the Textile Engineering Chemistry and Science department, according to the university’s Web site. A phone call placed after hours to a university spokesman by The Associated Press was not immediately returned Thursday.
A search of Gill’s car produced $20,000 of chemicals and equipment believed to have been taken from the base, The News Herald of Panama City reported. Among the stolen items was a triple-neck glass beaker valued at $1,200, said Ruth Sasser, a spokeswoman for the sheriff’s office.
“The true laboratory-grade professional chemistry stuff. The same kind of stuff you’d expect a Ph.D. to have,” Sasser told the newspaper.
All three men were being held at Bay County jail without bond until a court appearance scheduled for Friday afternoon, a jail official said. It was not known if any of them had attorneys.
