Residents at Andersen Air Force Base in Guam soon can expect to see more of America’s most advanced bombers.

The B-2 Spirits, deployed to Andersen from Whiteman Air Force Base, Mo., were scheduled to fly their first sorties Thursday, according to a news release.

Lt. Col. John Vitacca, 393rd Expeditionary Bomb Squadron commander, said in the release that the unit also will participate in the Koa Lightning exercise in Hawaii next week.

The exercise will demonstrate the Air Force’s unique capability to strike an adversary anywhere on the globe, according to the release. The B-2s will depart Guam, refuel with a tanker deployed from the Ohio National Guard and engage their targets over the bombing range in Hawaii before returning to Andersen.

According to the release, the sorties will take roughly 20 hours.
