A question for Military retirees
Has anyone purchased MILICARE PLUS, a health insurance supplement? I've gotten literature from them and have waded through their package of information and just can't tell if its a good deal or not. I'm not good at deciphering minutae. Thanks for any info.

1. Not sure but be careful
Something happened to my father, Air Force retired, about ten years ago that screwed up his military retirement health care. He (and other veterans) was supposed to fill out some paperwork that he was never told about, as were tens of thousands of others, next thing he knows he's on medicare. I think that's what happened but it was a while back and he is deceased now.

4. Yes vets have to be careful
about what their signing up for or out of. And I do worry about the older vets maybe not used to dealing with things on a computer and having to push this button or that button and the next thing ya know they are disenrolled from something or other.

7. I barely remember what I had researched about what happened
Even in some official letters it was stated that the government didn't have to notify the veterans but that the veterans had best notify them, the government or go on medicare. Something like that. All I remember was that after serving for twenty years, then being retired for about ten, bad heart with lots of meds., he gets notified that he's no longer allowed go to the closest military hospital but to a civilian hospital and start paying co-payments, claims, etc.

2. I mailed this thread to my brother
who, like you, was a "lifer". If he knows about this, he'll email me and I'll get back to you. Knowing my brother, it may be a while.

3. Thanks so very much
I got burned by something I got in the mail several years ago relative to Veterans Care and I look at such stuff with a jaundiced eye from now on.

6. Its advertised as a civilian supplement to TRICARE
I was fishing for someone who might have had experience with it. I got a ways to go before Medicare reels me in.

8. No website? I googled it, BOSS, and
it's very bizarre that there's NO info out there on it. Just an FYI. And I know what you mean about Medicare; too early for us, too (thankfully).

9. We are just enrolling in Tricare Prime.
I mean I am just putting the paperwork in an envelope and going to the post-office. The way I see it, it isn't any worse, and probably a lot better than the only other option we have here (Kaiser Permanente). At least the meds are covered and there isn't a $1500 deductible on everything.

We have been using Tricare for years as a secondary. Now it will be our Primary insurance and we will just have to pay close attention to all the small print. But it looks like it will serve us as well as any HMO has in the past.

12. I've been using Tricare Prime
for 4 years. Not bad if you can get a decent doctor. Use express scripts for ordering the meds, 90 days worth at a time. I use a supplement from MOAA but there are a whole bunch of supplements out there, USAA also offers one I think. The MOAA is 72 bucks a quarter.
