Chinese navy seeks to establish overseas base
Chinese navy seeks to establish overseas base

BEIJING — China needs a permanent naval base overseas to resupply its ships contributing to the multinational anti-piracy flotilla in the Gulf of Aden off Somalia, a prominent Chinese naval researcher was quoted as saying Wednesday.

The suggestion marks a further step away from China’s avowed policy of not maintaining foreign military bases or alliances. Beijing says a more active naval presence abroad is necessary to protect sea lanes through which its vital foreign trade and natural resources travel.

The bases idea was floated in a state radio interview with Yin Zhuo, a frequent navy spokesman on matters involving interactions with foreign navies. Yin offered no suggestions on where a base would be located and said all such decisions will be made by top military leaders.

“However, I believe that a relatively stable, relatively solid base for resupply and repair would be appropriate,” said Yin, a rear admiral and director of the naval center on information research.

A transcript appeared on the Defense Ministry’s official Web site on Wednesday.

1. China is quickly becoming the leader in science and technology..
..while the United States falls behind with antiquated factories, decaying bridges and a failing education system.

China recently built a high-speed rail system... it's steel on steel (not Mag-lev) but I believe it is up wards of 300 mph.

China controls the Panama Canal, and has set up strategic container depots throughout the Caribbean and South America. China has quietly inked Oil deals all over the globe.

They have done this all very quietly, while the U.S. has squandered $-BIllions creating civil wars and murdering civilians in the Middle East.

If Obama is playing Chess with the Chinese.. he is getting the crap kicked out of him.

Already, government investment has created something of an economic miniboom. At the railway station in Suzhou—the old Yangtze delta city north of Shanghai famous for its canals and ornamental gardens—teams of construction workers now spend their days suspended precariously from a latticework of girders high above the track. Soon, a brand-new glass-and-steel terminal will rise here, and the crumbling old 1950s station, with its few platforms, will be consigned to history. Guangzhou, Shanghai, and other cities are following suit, building shiny new stations to service the fast new trains. Authorities are so confident about the market that they've invested tens of millions of dollars in localizing production of bullet trains, with 85 percent of the parts for trains in the new Beijing-Shanghai line expected to be manufactured domestically.

2. Kuwait.
Sinopec, that's China's biggest refiner, agreed to increase purchases of crude by 50% from Kuwait. They are in place in Sudan. Building a naval station in Sri Lanka. Their first out of country base is in Kazakhstan.

I suppose that China needs a jihad declared on them in order to get super power status.

Good luck with that Mr Chairman. It has really worked out well for the politicians in this country.
