The 82nd Airborne Division’s 2nd Brigade Combat Team continues a 10-day field exercise this weekend aimed at assessing and validating the unit’s quick reaction force capabilities.

Joint Forcible Entry Exercise is being supported by a number of units from the XVIII Airborne Corps, the Air Force and the special operations community, according to a news release from the 82nd Airborne Division.

The exercise is based on a scenario which called for the 2nd BCT to deploy on short notice, execute an airborne assault to seize key terrain, defeat enemy forces and transition quickly to stability operations.

In the initial phase of the exercise, more than 1,400 paratroopers from the 2nd BCT made combat jumps into multiple drop zones to seize key positions and defeat enemy forces.

They were supported by Air Force F-15 fighters, AC-130 gunships, B-52 bombers, attack aviation, multiple intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance assets, and dozens of airdropped heavy equipment platforms of vehicles and artillery pieces, the release said.
