CAMDEN, N.C. North Carolina Sen. Kay Hagan is visiting northeastern North Carolina to discuss the Navys search for a landing field.

Hagan will speak Friday with residents and community leaders from Camden, Curritick and Gates counties.

The Democratic lawmaker has opposed the construction of a landing field in the region. The Navy abandoned plans to build the strip in Washington County but is now considering three sites in Virginia and two sites in North Carolina one in Gates County and the other straddling Camden and Curritick Counties.

The proposed $200 million landing field would primarily serve as a practice area for fighter pilots based at Oceana Naval Air Station in Virginia Beach.
