Air Force makes civilian hiring push

Jobs are hard to find right now, but the Air Force is increasing its hiring of civilians and seeking out military spouses and others to fill the positions.

Contractor conversions, joint basing and end-strength growth will increase the demand for civilian employees, and the Air Force Personnel Center is deploying a marketing and recruiting tool kit to some bases to target military spouses and external candidates for the jobs, AFPC announced Friday.

Launching at select locations in mid-March to mid-April, the three-month pilot program will get the word out to potential job candidates via base exchange radio spots, public service announcements for local radio and television stations, videos and briefings for chambers of commerce and commanders calls, flyers and a comprehensive marketing guide.

The marketing guide will help local bases identify who to contact to help with recruiting efforts, provide newcomer information to share with Airmen and Family Readiness Centers and supply templates for posters, stickers and letters.

The initiative, which will launch Air Force-wide during the summer, is expected to help fill civilian vacancies more quickly by increasing employment opportunities for military spouses and targeting qualified, local candidates, said Pat Stokes, a marketing specialist in AFPC’s Civilian Force Integration branch.
