A retention incentive program that provides up to $150,000 in cash bonuses to selected Special Forces warrant officers who extend their active–duty careers has been renewed for 2009.
The critical skills retention bonus program was renewed Jan. 23 for retirement-eligible SF warrant officers (MOS 180) with 19 to 24 years of active federal service who extend for two to six years.
Lump-sum bonuses are $150,000 for a six-year service extension; $75,000 for five years, $50,000 for four years, $30,000 for three years, and $18,000 for two years.
An $8,000 bonus also is available for officers who have completed 23 years of service, but will not complete 25 years of service before the end of the contract period.
Officers who want to participate in this program must have at least 18 years and six months of service when they submit an application through their chain of command.
However, service extension contracts and bonus payments will not take effect earlier than 19 years of service.
This is the entire piece.
