NEW YORK — A former Navy lieutenant has pleaded guilty to stealing laser-aiming devices from the military and trying to sell them.

David Raymond Carmel entered the plea in U.S. District Court in Manhattan on Friday.

He admitted that he sold weapons-mounted infrared laser-aiming devices to an undercover law enforcement agent.

The Wisconsin man had obtained the weapons equipment while he served as a supply officer aboard the coastal mine hunter Shrike out of the Naval Station at Ingleside, Texas. It was there that he had access to supply inventories.

As part of the plea, the 33-year-old agreed to serve about two years in prison. Sentencing is scheduled for Jan. 16.
