Hearing set for academy cadet on rape charge

An Air Force Academy cadet was charged Monday with the rape of a fellow cadet and two other violations of military law.

Cadet 1st Class Sean T. Callahan of the Academy’s 35th Squadron has been charged under the Uniformed Code of Military Justice by Air Force Academy authorities for dereliction of duty for drinking underage, unlawfully entering another cadet’s dorm room and rape, according the charge sheet.

According to the charges, the three violations occurred in August 2007.

If convicted, Callahan, “faces a maximum punishment of dismissal from the Air Force, life in prison and total forfeiture of pay and allowances,” according to an academy news release.

An evidentiary hearing will take place at the Academy on Thursday.
