Soldier dies during morning PT at Fort Bragg

An 82nd Airborne Division soldier died Friday after collapsing during morning physical training at Fort Bragg, N.C. The Army is investigating the incident and the cause of the soldier’s death.

Staff Sgt. Huy Nguyen, 44, of Inglewood, Calif., was a CH-47 flight engineer with B Company, 3rd Battalion, 82nd Combat Aviation Brigade. Nguyen, who joined the Army in August 1996, arrived at the 82nd Airborne earlier this month. His awards include the Air Medal, Army Commendation Medal with three oak leaf clusters, Joint Service Achievement Medal, Army Achievement Medal with three oak leaf clusters, the National Defense Service Medal, Afghan Campaign Medal, Korea Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Aviator Badge and Air Assault Badge.

Nguyen is survived by his wife, Evgenia, and daughter, Angelena, of Cameron, N.C., and his parents, Kim Tran and Thanh Nguyen, of Hawthorne, Calif.
