There will be 2,581 active-component promotions to the ranks of chief warrant officer through colonel in July, the largest monthly total in two years.

The July promotion forecast calls for 66 advancements to colonel, 135 to lieutenant colonel, 97 to major, 2,157 to captain and 1,236 to the chief warrant officer ranks.

The 2,157 first lieutenants advancing to captain all are members of the line branches and were commissioned 38 months ago from West Point and the Reserve Officer Training Corps.

These lieutenants were selected for promotion by a board that met in October. Originally, the selection list had 4,341 names. July promotions will reduce the list to 967 names.

Promotions to colonel will total 26 for the members of the Maneuver, Fires and Effects functional area; 16 each for Operational Support and Force Sustainment; two each for the Medical Corps and Medical Specialist Corps; three for the Dental Corps, and one for the Chaplain Corps.
