BRAGGS, Okla. — When an Enid-based brigade of the Oklahoma National Guard deploys to the Middle East in the fall, the Blount family will be well represented.

Four Blount brothers — Jason, Jeffery and twins Justin and Jarred — all are members of the Enid-based 45th Fires Brigade, which is expected to go to Iraq or Kuwait by October to provide base and convoy security. They currently are training at Camp Gruber for their mission.

It’s not uncommon in the Oklahoma Guard to have multiple siblings — in some cases fathers, sons and brothers in one family — head out on a mission.

But four brothers is unique.

“I’ve never seen it before in all my years with the Guard,” said Col. Pat Scully, spokesman for the Oklahoma National Guard.

uhc comment: I seem to recall three brothers were killed on ship in WW II, and that resulted in an Army policy that said siblings cannot serve in the same unit. Can anyone refresh my memory?

1. It's an urban legend that sibs are banned from the same combat unit.
There's never been such a restriction.

2. The Sullivan brothers.
This is the first link I came to: http://www.history.navy.mil/faqs/faq72-1.htm

There were 5 brothers on the USS Juneau, all died when the ship went down in 1942.

3. Maybe it applies to RA not NG?
I live across the river from Camp Gruber and right now I can hear gunfire. Yes, they are indeed training and have been for 2 - 3 weeks. I expect the next weeks will include night maneuvers with flares and helicopters. Living here is like being in a war zone without the fear of the enemy.
