New Army Uniform
How do Army personnel feel about the change in Army Uniform from green to Blue? Do you like the change? So far in my opinion (even though I am not in the military) the bule uniforms seem nice to me.

1. The new Navy uniforms are closer to fatigues.
As a former salt, I don't like them.

4. Pictures
Do you know anywhere that I can see picture of the new uniforms? I was in Navy ROTC in high and like the Navy uniform as it was. I had heard about the changes in the women's uniform, but could never see pictures of any of the changes.

16. Actually Like
I actually like this uniform. I always wanted to wear camouflage. In addition, I like the color. I think the color is cool.

17. I liked the dungarees.
They were basically what I was wearing as a civilian. Bellbottoms and chambray shirts.

21. INSANITY. Camouflage on ships? You want to wear camo, join the marines.
It's digital camo in the articles in All Hands.

Combat boots? On a ship? How long does it take to get them off before they drown you if you fall overboard? Why camo? What are sailors hiding from - chiefs?

People on ships have different needs. Yeomen, sonar, etc. don't need this silliness, enginemen might find it hot, etc.

Crazy.

2. Through most of the 19th century the uniforms were blue, no?
Maybe green by the time of the Spanish-American War.

3. Yes
George Washington ordered that the uniforms be blue so soldiers could tell the difference between the fellow soldiers and the British. The uniform was changed to green in 1954.

5. Here's a pic and a link:
Sgt. 1st Class Jeff Myhre, the Program Executive Office NCOIC, sports the Army Combat Uniform, the recently approved wear for Soldiers. It contains 20 new improvements.

Army gets new combat uniform

~snip~

The ACU will consist of a jacket, trousers, moisture wicking t-shirt and the brown combat boots. It will replace both versions of the BDU and the desert camouflage uniform. The black beret will be the normal headgear for the ACU, but there is a matching patrol cap to be worn at the commander's discretion.

At $88 per uniform, about $30 more than the BDU, Soldiers will eventually reap gains in money and time by not having to take uniforms to the cleaners or shine boots.

I wonder who has the contracts to make those new uniforms???? :patriot:

8. I remember when the new jungle fatigues came out.
They were a quantum improvement over the regular fatigues, but looked odd with large, slanted pockets allover the place.

19. I loved the Jungle Fatigues
They were comfortable, inexpensive, and a lot better than the BDU's. I also liked the Jungle Boots. I think the Army could have saved the taxpayers a lot of money if they had simply adopted the Jungle Fatigues in a desert color/pattern for use in the desert. The plain green or cammy style Jungles could have been kept for those climates. I felt that the BDU's were a complete waste of money.

9. I don't think..
wearing the collar like that is mandatory, maybe just when out in the field under a flak jacket. Most officers I've seen on camera wear it like a normal blouse.

BTW: I think retaining seperate woodland and desert fatigues would make a lot more sense.

13. My husband likes their feel. Softer against the skin. They have to be..
washed with a mild laundry soap because some detergents can damage the material. They also tear easier from everything soldiers have said.

Soldiers annoy other soldiers by ripping the rank/insignia/patches off the velcro.(which then have to be replaced to specification)

18. Waste of money
The Army blew millions on black berets, and now this. The idea of senior officers spending time and money on more uniform issues tells me that our Army does not have its priorities straight.
