4-year sentence for spc. in ex-boyfriend death

FORT RILEY, Kan. — A Fort Riley soldier found guilty of involuntary manslaughter in the stabbing death of her ex-boyfriend has been sentenced to four years of confinement.

Fort Riley spokeswoman Alison Kohler said Tuesday that Spc. Latoya Pitts, 22, was also given a dishonorable discharge and a reduction in rank to E-1.

A military judge last week convicted Pitts of fatally stabbing Pvt. Antonio Ortiz outside a Manhattan bar in October 2007.

Pitts and Ortiz got into a violent confrontation after leaving Silverado’s, a tavern in Manhattan. Ortiz was with another woman at the time.
