USS George Washington families settle in overseas

YOKOSUKA NAVAL BASE, Japan — An advance party of USS George Washington sailors and their families have moved to Japan from Norfolk, Va., in preparation of the nuclear-powered ship’s arrival to Yokosuka this summer.

The eight families began arriving here about a month ago.

According to Julie Aranda, wife of Lt. Manny Aranda, the advance party officer in charge, living overseas has been a family dream for years.

“Manny would go on deployment and visit all these exciting places,” Julie Aranda said.

Now, the Aranda family — which also includes 14-year-old daughter Jessica and sons Erick, 12, and David, 10 — can experience jet lag, looking the wrong way when crossing the street, and learning to eat with chopsticks.
