Foreign Service hiring special agents

Pacific edition, Thursday, January 31, 2008

The U.S. State Department plans to hire about 150 Foreign Service Diplomatic Security special agents this year and the application deadline is Friday.

Those hired may work at one of 260 Foreign Service posts, at domestic ports in the United States and Puerto Rico, at a Diplomatic Security field office, resident office or with the Bureau of Diplomatic Security headquarters in Washington, D.C., according to the State Department’s Web site.

All applicants must complete an online screening and examination, found at www.careers.state.gov or at www.diplomaticsecurity.state.gov.

“Only a limited number of applicants are expected to score high enough to be invited to participate in an oral assessment,” according to the State Department’s announcement.

Applicants must be U.S. citizens, have a bachelor’s degree at the time of appointment, be fit for strenuous physical exertion and possess a valid U.S. driver’s license. Applicants also cannot have been convicted of any felony and must legally be able to carry a firearm.
