New Heritage Coat to undergo fit test

The new service dress uniform coat is getting closer to wide-spread testing

About 150 airmen from three Texas installations — Brooks City-Base, Lackland Air Force Base and Randolph Air Force Base — will participate in a fit test of the new Air Force Heritage Coat from Jan. 28 to Feb. 1, according to an Air Force release.

Follow-on fit tests in mid-February and March are slated for the Air Force Academy in Colorado and Maxwell Air Force Base, Ala.,

An official wear test is scheduled for this summer. Members of the Air Force Honor Guard are expected to be among the first airmen to receive the new coat. A handful of airmen have been wearing prototype versions of the coat.

The initiative to replace the current Air Force service dress coat started in 2006 with the backing of Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. T. Michael Moseley.
