My boy Sheridan has cancer!
The Vet called me this morning and gave me the bad news. It had some long, complicated name and I could feel tears welling up in my eyes as she told me. She said the tumor had been one of three possibilities. Unfortunately, what it turned out to be is the most aggressive of the three. If I ignore it, it will eventually grow back and break his jaw. So I have two choices before me...

1) Do nothing, just continue to give him pain medicine and antibiotics and wait for the end. That is not an option for me

2)Or fight back. The good part of this bad news is that this particular cancer doesn't spread. So once it is removed he will be okay. To remove it, part of his jaw must be extracted in surgery. So he has to have a CRT scan to find out how much the tumor has invaded his jaw. My Vet told me dogs who have had this form of surgery do really well.

I have to admit I sat and cried after getting off the phone. I thought Sheridan's dealings with the Vet were over for now. I guess not.

Sheridan has to see a different Vet who deals in cancer and he has a visit scheduled for next week, Thurs. April 24. Please continue to keep good thoughts for my baby. I will keep everyone up to date as I get more information.

15. Oh My Greylyn58... My HEART IS WITH YOU!! I REALLY REALLY Mean It!!
I recall talking with you about our dogs before. My chocolate lab is still young, almost 3 now, but before her we had to put our German Shepherd LuLu to sleep at the ripe age of 16! Made THREE appointments before we went through it. Also my cat Brandy who was 18 was put down only six months after that. My husband built both of them a coffin and I lined them with fur cloth. We then went out and buried them on our 5 acres next to each other. You NEVER forget them and we said NO MORE PETS, it hurts too much!

But now we have SHAWNEE! Gluttons for punishment to some extent, but animals GIVE SO MUCH and are ALWAYS there when you need that extra hug!

I wish only the VERY BEST for Sheridan, and from how you speak of him, I KNOW he's had a GREAT home! GOOD LUCK to both of you!

17. Oh dear
Greylyn, I am so sorry. I know how horrible you must feel. My little girl Emily (beagle) got a very bad diagnosis just before Christmas. At the time they gave her 3-6 months, but she is still with me and going strong. She's happy and enjoying life and seems healthier than she did in December.

I'm so glad that Sheridan has a wonderful mom like you who has taken care of him and given him a good life and will continue to fight for him. They are such sweet, innocent, trusting beings that it seems particularly unjust when any illness comes to them.

If you are interested, PM me and I can give you information on a DUer who has a lot of knowledge about natural healing for dogs.

Please give Sheridan an extra big hug from me and Emily. You will both be in my prayers.

:) I've wondered how she's doing and have been meaning to ask. That's wonderful news.

20. I've been meaning to email you
and thank you again. She's happy and playful, and a bit ornery, too. When I start getting her food ready, she barks if I don't give it to her fast enough. I'm so thankful to see her doing so well and I consider every good day for her a blessing for me.

18. Greylyn, I'm so sorry to hear that you've gotten bad news about your beautiful boy.
I will send good thoughts for healing your way for Sheridan. He sure looks great in that nifty bandanna! :)

I understand what you're going through. My sweet boy has been diagnosed with that horrible disease twice now, but has survived. He is an elder fellow (I promised him I won't discuss his age, and he believes he's a mere pup anyhow ;) ), but is doing fantastic these days. So, take heart. I know how hard this is, but Sheridan looks vibrant. His spirit is strong, as is yours.

Knock on wood my babies are healthy, but we've had a few scares, and they will be 12 next month.
