2. Nice reporting without the "baggage", unlike story today at wral
I live in Chapel Hill. We sometimes see one or both of them around CH/Carrboro, might be shopping with their children or out having dinner together (likely creating a buzz in the restaurant). I used to see them more, but that was when they lived around the corner from me while they built their house on the other side of town.

On the other hand, you have WRAL repeatedly pushing stories on them like this current one http://www.wral.com/news/local/politics/story/6573931 / . I submitted a comment to them at the outrage of recycling all this again and asking them why since the house shopping part was widely reported months ago.

In that post, I asked them if they were trying to drive traffic to their site, boost their search engine ranking... My comment was not allowed by their moderators; instead they closed the story to further comments. They did get a bump in the social media, but at least this story hasn't run on the AP wire, at least not yet.

3. Hmmm. WRAL banned your comment?
Smells like you were right on the money about their motives.
Back in August, I actually called them to remind them a certain person was NEVER part of JRE's '08 campaign... she worked in the inter-campaign time, and that they needed to get their facts straight.

If nothing else, the big take-away message is that technology does NOT necessarily mean up-to-date information. Most of the recent snarky Tweets about JRE reference sources that came out at least two months ago. And in October, there was a lot of bellyaching about a detail that, if they'd been paying proper attention, had actually first come out at the end of June.

For now, things look very good for our favorite couple. They're still together, they're still in love... and things have been infinitely worse for far more deserving people like Sanford and Ensign.

4. Not banned. Within their TofS not to publish any submission, without cause
I might have been a bit close to their rules about interfering with or damaging wral.com or its operations, etc. I might have hit a bit close to home for them, It doesn't matter since they reserve complete discretion in deciding if a submission is published.

I had thought it possible they had decided that lacking actual news, they should close comments and let the story die quietly. But I just checked and was surprised that it is again open for comments; there goes that theory.

Now what? A need for a high-profile story, could we be in sweeps? Or is this in prep for the release of the book by Edwards aide Andrew Young? A reminder during the healthcare debates? Is Tiger getting all the attention? Who knows.

A small but important clarification from my limited view. While I am certain that John and Elizabeth love each other, I hesitate at "in love". From painful personal experiences, it is almost impossible to regain that level. I wish the best for them and their family in every way.

6. Looks like media blitz for rollout of Andrew Young's tell-all book's jacket cover
Edited on Fri Dec-11-09 05:04 AM by unc70
BREAKING NEWS: First look at cover design for Young's tell-all book . Many astounded to find a picture of John Edwards on the front!

It was nearly that bad on WRAL-TV local news tonight, third teaser after "three killed" and "two identified" -- if it bleeds, it leads.

This second article is online at states that the Young book is to be released in February, with the content almost the same as in the prior one, with this addition:

Amazon.com describes Young's book as follows: "The underside of modern American politics raw ambition, manipulation, and deception are revealed in detail by Andrew Youngs riveting account of a presidential hopefuls meteoric rise and scandalous fall. Like a non-fiction version of 'All the Kings Men,' 'The Politician' offers a truly disturbing, even shocking, perspective on the risks taken and tactics employed by a man determined to rule the most powerful nation on earth."

(Wonkette has a must-read thread concerning this book: http://wonkette.com/412623/buy-john-edwards-slaves-book )

The third story is Sen. Burr blocking the nominee for U.S. Attorney until completion of grand jury investigations of Edwards and former governor Easley. One focus in related investigations has been on not reporting flights taken on private aircraft; the rules changed some years back but behavior and recordkeeping were slow to catch up. (GJ on Xe/Blackwater, too.)

7. Wral almost stalking JRE. Another story based on little or nothing
Today it was video of him on the tarmac at general aviation at RDU as he was boarding a private plane; they had his flight plan, etc.

Kieran Shanahan, the man identified as a former prosecutor, always seems ready to comment on any case WRAL is covering, particularly whe involving Democrats. They fail to mention any of his other titles; start with finance director for the NC GOP.

8. They had his flight plan? Yeesh.
But I do see an upside: JRE can't be visiting a certain person in secret... it would impossible to. WRAL would pounce on it and broadcast it to every news organization within 500 miles.

I found and noted Shanahan's, *cough*, credentials. I think Shanahan wants to be Burr's go-to guy on any news coming out of JRE's investigation.

I found out from a supporter an another board that you-know-who never bought a house in Wilmington. According to the WRAL, she visited one house twice-- on her own, with only her daughter-- but the deal fell through when the tabloids got a hold of the story. I'm glad she got scared away. I'd like her to be scared out of the entire state.

15. Oh no
I'm still furious with him - what he did to Elizabeth and his children is disgusting. I especially find it cruel that he continually introduced Elizabeth as "the love of my life" while she stood beside him, knowing he'd cheated. I cannot imagine how difficult that must have been for her. I just meant with all the obsession over people's weight, if that's what's passing for fat now, it isn't so bad, hence the "bring it on" statement.

13. *sigggghhhhh*...
Edited on Thu Dec-17-09 10:26 PM by MonteLukast
Okay. I did a bit of fact-checking on that house.

The Mecklenberg County deed warranty says that the trustee is an Emmett Jackson White. I looked him up. He's a lawyer who practiced in DC and Florida-- but other than that, he has NOTHING in common with Edwards.

I even looked up his campaign donations, just to make sure he wasn't another donor/shakedownee. There's a $500 donation to David Toscano for delegate, $300 to the GE Political Action Committee, and $250 to an unspecified donor.

Mr. White doesn't know Edwards from Adam. Obama had more of a connection with Bill Ayers.

This also shows me that RH is indeed what I suspected all along-- a money- and fame-hungry sociopath. I'm reminded all over of Heather Mills, right down to her demands for a security detail and "the high life" for her daughter(obviously mistaking spending a lot on your child for being a good parent).

(Yes, I used a link to the UK Daily Mail. I'm sorry-- but if we're going to compare gossipy sites...)

And it's a tragedy that JRE didn't see that was her true nature, until it was too late and she'd gotten a child out of him.

For everyone who wishes to bring out the discussion-stopper "poor guy, he tripped and his penis landed inside her":
To an outside observer, a case like this may look open-and-shut unless you've been a friend, lover or family member of a manipulator yourself. I've just broken it off with my mother after putting up with 30-plus years of her subtle machinations and mind games. It's amazing I have any empathy at all, thanks to her; because of her mixed-messages and calculated constantly-shifting definition of love and kindness; and her obsessive need to be right, and machinating until she became right, over and over again.

The charm offensive a sociopath can release is astronomical, more than any normal human being is capable of; and yes, even more than JRE could do.
Remember when Elizabeth pressed him as to why he'd allowed RH to remain in his life, and he told her he didn't know? That's what a relationship with a sociopath does. It muddles your mind. It clouds your worldview. I'll bet JRE didn't believe himself to be susceptible to one. Everyone thinks that way, until they actually become acquainted with one. Dr. Liane Leedom, psychiatrist, married and had a child with one before he ruined her career and her legal good standing. If it can happen to a psychiatrist, sure as HELL it can happen to a trial lawyer.

It is a very sad thing indeed to have to co-parent with a sociopath. Because the only way to deal with one is to break off contact completely, and that is not possible when there's a child involved. He may have no choice but to avoid the baby as well, if he is to protect himself. Plus, there's better than average chance she will grow up to be a sociopath herself, both because it's genetic and because of the constant contact with her mother.

Oh, and one final, related point:
Some of these opinions might be rightbut then so is a stopped clock, twice a day. All of these views are only projections of things inside us.
