then know that in spite of the "scandal' they are appreciated and their efforts were not for nothing.I feel just horrible especially for Elizabeth that all their sacrifices are being "trashed" by folks who make everything about themselves. And most of whom make no effort except for mpushing the keys on a computer keynboard to complain!And the haters have jumped right on board. Some have always hated then and now think they have credibility.Well, they don't in my book. I empathize with the disappointments of fellow Edwardians but one personal mistake is not enough for me to wipe out a lifetime of effort.

What was he thinking when he was thinking with his little brain? Obviously not his supporters :( With hopes I'll find it in my heart to forgive both John and Elizabeth as you have. Right now, it just doesn't seem possible.

Maybe he stayed in because he wasn't entirely thinking with his little brain. He may, in fact, have been thinking of his supporters, and especially of his message. I find it easier to forgive him than you do, because it doesn't look like he was operating totally on selfish motives. Always in the backdrop, there's that strong agenda of his driving him.

It's harder work than we're accustomed to, attempting to see the complexity of a man and his choices. It's easy to think black-and-white.

But if we're going to get out of our country-wide sexual hang-up... what better place to start with than with the Edwards situation?

More information is coming out, that he is still lying about the relationship's timeline. Witnesses are coming forward now putting the affair long before he hired her and paid her with OAC's donation dollars.

If Eliz knew about it, why on earth would she let him "hire" her? I think she found out along with the rest of us :(

There are a lot of things that don't make sense about what has been disclosed so far.

So I am going to wait to try to make sense out of it when everything else comes out--if it ever does.

I wish our candidates could learn from others' experiences. Maybe some do, better than others.

3. About those haters:

The haters are coming out in droves because this affair gave them "permission" to en masse express their disapproval of Edwards.

A lot of people opposed to Hillary did the same thing with Bill Clinton when he started making an ass of himself... remembering what was NOT so good about the Clinton presidency, rehashing in detail his concessions to the righties and his own unsavory character traits. And we were starting to do the same thing with Obama after the FISA vote, before his Berlin speech made his stock rise again.

Why, if we're hating on somebody, do we always have to come out in packs? :shrug:

6. I think I know why infidelity is more severe for Dems than for Repugs.

Because WE do it. We punish harshly for dashed expectations.

We except Repugs to cheat. We give them a pass because infidelity is in character for them. As it was for Bill Clinton.

But it was most certainly NOT in character for JE in particular. And Dems in general, we hold to a higher moral standard, especially after the last eight years.

I see some important lessons to be learned from this-- starting with, thanks to that ABC News thread, how NOT to abandon your loved ones once they get sick. (Very sad thread!) If we don't learn those lessons, then we just may be hopeless as a society. :grr: :grr:
